Abstract
A system for mounting an unframed mirror on a wall includes one or more base brackets supporting the base edge of the mirror and two or more side brackets retaining the sides of the mirror so that it will not slide along the wall from side to side. Each of the brackets includes a front panel that extends across the front face of the support member in the case of the base bracket and the retaining members in the case of the side brackets. These are large, flat panels shaped to provide a coordinated ornamental appearance in addition to providing good support for the mirror.
Description
The present invention relates to the mounting of mirrors, particularly unframed mirrors, on a wall.
Mirrors mounted on walls are often unframed. The mounting systems used for this are often insecure or aesthetically unappealing.
The present invention is concerned with a novel form of mirror mounting system that is secure and aesthetically pleasing.
According to the present invention there is provided a system for mounting a mirror on a wall comprising a plurality of brackets including at least one base bracket with a support member to be engaged with the wall below the mirror to support a bottom edge of the mirror and a flat front panel to overlie a front face of the mirror, and at least two side brackets, each including a retaining member to be engaged with the wall on a respective side of the mirror to lirnit lateral movement of the mirror along the wall and a flat front panel to overlie the front face of the mirror, the front panels of the base and side brackets having coordinated ornamental configurations.
These brackets overlie a substantial face of the mirror so as to provide a secure, aesthetically pleasing mounting for a mirror. The configuration of the front panels of the brackets may be selected to match virtually any decor.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate an exemplary embodiment of the present invention:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a mirror mounted on a wall with a system according to the present invention;
Figure 2 is a cross-section along line 2-2 of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a back view of a side bracket.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, there is illustrated a mirror 10 _2_ mounted on a wall 12. The mirror is unframed. The mounting system includes a base bracket 14 at the bottom of the mirror and two side brackets 16 at respective sides of the mirror. The base bracket includes a support member 18, shown in broken line in Figure 1, which extends along the bottom edge 19 of the mirror 10 to support the mirror from below. The bottom bracket also has a front panel 20 that overlies the front face of the mirror. This is a large, flat panel, ornamentally shaped. In this embodiment, it is shaped as a stylistic representation of a number of sunflowers 22 with leaves 24. The front panel 20 overlies the front face of the support member 18 so that the support member is not readily visible. Each of the side brackets includes a retaining member 26 that extends along a respective side edge 27 of the mirror. This prevents the mirror from sliding from side to side on the wall.
In addition to the retaining member 26, each of the side brackets 16 includes a front panel 28 that overlies the front face of the mirror 10 and the front face of the retaining member. The front panel is shaped to provide a conforming ornamental appearance matching that of the front panel 20 on the base bracket 14.
In this case each of the side brackets represents a sunflower 30 and a pair of leaves 32. The base bracket is secured to the wall by a pair of screws 34 through the front panel and the support member while the side brackets 16 are similarly secured to the wall by screws 34 through the front panels 20 and the retaining members 26.
As will be apparent, the large front panels 20 of the brackets provide a secure retention of the mirror against the wall 12 while providing a coordinated ornamental appearance that can be configured to match any decor.
While one embodiment of the present invention has been described in the foregoing, it is to be understood that other embodiments are possible within the scope of the invention and are intended to be included herein. It is, for example, possible to use other than three brackets for mounting a mirror. More than one base bracket is possible while more than two side brackets are possible. The minimum number is three, one base bracket and two side brackets as shown in the exemplary embodiment.
In view of the numerous different embodiments of the invention that can be constructed within the abilities of those skilled in the art, the invention is to be considered limited solely by the scope of the appended claims.
