Description
This invention relates to brushes and more particularly to a brush for the paw of an animal such as a dog or a cat.
The brush broadly includes a hollow container which is open at the top and which has an interior surface defined by side and bottom walls . A plurality of bristles are attached to interior surface and extend inwardly therefrom. A lid is attached to the top of the container. The lid has a flexible upper wall having a central opening for receipt of the animal's paw.
More specifically the brush includes a hollow container which is open at the top and which as an interior surface defined by side and bottom walls. A plurality of bristles are attached to interior surface and extend inwardly therefrom. A
lid is removably attached to the top of the container and has a flexible upper wall having a central opening for receipt of the animal's paw. The upper wall of the lid has a plurality of slits formed therein.
Still more specifically, the brush includes a hollow cylindrical container. having a circular open top. The container has an interior surface defined by side and bottom walls. A plurality of bristles are attached to the interior surface and extend inwardly therefrom. A lid is removably attached to the top of the container and has a circular upper wall provided with a central opening for receipt of the animal's paw. The circular wall has a plurality of radially extending slits formed therein.
The brush is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the brush;
Figure 2 is an elevation, partly in section, of the brush;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary elevation of the interior wall of the brush;
Figure 4 is an elevation, partly cut away, of the brush;
Figure 5 is a plan view of the brush; and Figure 6 is a plan view of the interior of the brush.
Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the description of the drawings.
With reference to Figures 1 and 2 the brush of the invention, generally 10, includes a hollow cylindrical container 12, a lid 14, a towel 16 and a clip 18.
The container has a circular bottom wall 20 and a cylindrical side wall 22. As illustrated in Figures 2, 3 and 6, bristles 24 are attached to the interior surface 26 of the side and bottom walls. The bristles extend inwardly from the interior surface and, as illustrated in Figure 6, define a hollow central space 28 within which the paw of an animal is received. The bristles are composed of strands of material such as hair or nylon. The strands should be strong enough to remove dirt from a paw but not so strong that they in ure the paw.
It will be noted that bristles are attached to sub-stantially the entire interior surface of the side and bottom walls of the container so that the paw is surrounded by bristles when it is in the central space 28.
The lid has a circular upper wall 30 having a central opening 32 for admission of the paw. The wall serves as a splash guard and is composed of flexible material such as rubber and has a number of slits 34 which extend radially outwardly from the central opening. The wall thus yields resiliently when a paw is inserted into the container.
The lid has a circular downwardly extending lip 38 attached to the circular outer edge of the upper wall. The lip has threads formed on its inner surface for mating with threads 40 (illustrated in Figure 4) formed on the upper portion of the side wall of the container. The lid can thus be unscrewed from the container to facilitate removal of the contents of the container.
With reference again to Figures 1 and 2, towel 16 is attached to the side wall of the container by means of a hook 52 and chain 54. The towel when not in use is removably held to the side wall of the container by clip 18. The clip is composed of resiliently flexible material and is semi-circular in shape and removably attaches to the side wall of the container.
The brush is used to clean dirt such as mud, grass, excrement, salt or ice from the paw of an animal in the following manner: the paw is inserted into the container and into contact with the bristles. The upper wall of the lid, being flexible, yields if contacted by the paw and thus accommodates paws of various sizes.
The container is then moved up and down or is rotated in order to cause the bristles to dislodge the dirt from the paw.
If desired, the container can be filled with warm soapy water in order to facilitate the removal of the dirt. The upper wall 30 of the lid serves as a splash guard to minimize spillage of the water from the container while the paw is being cleaned.
After cleaning, the animal's paw is removed from the container and dried with towel 16. The lid of the container is then be removed so that dirt within the container can be removed.
It will be understood of course that modifications can be made in the preferred embodiment illustrated and described herein without departing from the scope and purview of the invention as described herein.

With reference to Figures 1 and 2 the brush of the invention, generally 10, includes a hollow cylindrical container 12, a lid 14, a towel 16 and a clip 18.

The bristles extend inwardly from the interior surface and, as illustrated in Figure 6, define a hollow central space 28 within which the paw of an animal is received.
