Description
DEVTCE COMPRISING A COMPUTER AND INTEGRATED
TELECOMMUNICATION APPARATUS
The present invention relates to a device which comprises a computer and integrated telecommunication apparatus and which is formed from a system unit, a keyboard unit and a display unit which Gre mounted so that they can rotate about a common axle, whereby the respectively external keyboard unit and the system unit are locked in a closed state and in an open state displaced 180~ from each other.
With an assembly of this kind the device only needs to be opened by 180~ for the input of data or for the marking of the display unit by means of an input pen, and, for example during mobile use of the device, it forms a stable base for the display unit which in this case rests on the system unit, because the system unit and the keyboard unit are locked.
The present invention seeks to provide a device in which the rotatable display unit is supported in such a way that when the device is opened its reliable operation is always possible.
According to the present invention, there is provided a device which comprises a computer and integrated telecommunication apparatus and which is formed from a system unit, a keyboard unit and a display unit which are mounted so that they can rotate about a common axle, whereby the externally arranged keyboard unit and the system unit are locked in a . closed state and in an open state in which the keyboard unit and the system unit have been rotated by 180~ with respect to each other, and the internally arranged display unit car. be locked in positions of 0 to 90~
with respect to the system unit.
Thus an internal display unit is provided which is capable of being locked in positions of 0 to 90~ with respect to the system unit.
When the opened or unfolded device is placed on a fixed base, for example a table, the display unit can be brought into the inclined position desired by the user and can be lockeded in this position. The locked position of the system unit and keyboard unit and the fixed inclined position of the display unit guarantee that the device does not tip over during operation, i.e. as a result of mechanical pressure on the display surface from an input pen. In this respect,. the locking of the display unit can take place continuously, i.e. pressure can be exerted mechanically on the display unit in every desired and adjusted position without fear of tipping-over.
It is also possible to undertake the locking m steps so that coarser graduations can be achieved. In this respect, for space-saving reasons it is possible to arrange the elements for locking the display unit in the axle which is common to a11 three units.
A further possibility is that a rotatable bracket is arranged on the system unit or display unit, which bracket engages in stop elements provided on the display unit or system unit. These stop elements can be arranged, for example, such that they lie one behind the other in a row in a sawtooth shape, so that the U-shaped bracket, for example arranged in the region of the stop elements, can be easily displaced or released by hand. In this respect, the stop elements and the bracket can be arranged both centrally or laterally on the system unit or display unit.
A further pcssibility is to provide, between the display unit and the system unit, a support which comprises several supporting elements which are connected to each other and to the system unit and the display unit by way of hinges. In this respect, corresponding to the number of individual supporting elements, several positions of the display unit with respect to the system unit can be occupied. When the supporting elements are in the entirely drawn-out state, the individual hinges are constructed between the supporting elements in such a way that they are moved beyond a folding point into a stable position.
According to another development of the invention, a recess to receive the folded supporting elements can be provided on the inner surface of the system unit.
For a better understanding of the present invention, and to show how it may be brought into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a portable device comprising a system unit, keyboard unit and a display unit.
Figure 2 shows the display unit in a first open position.
Figure 3 shows the display unit in a second open position.
The device 1 comprising a computer with integrated telecommunication apparatus is formed by the system unit 2, the keyboard unit 3 and the display unit 4.
All three units are mounted so that they can rotate about an axle which is common to them. The external keyboard unit 3 can be opened or unfolded from the closed or folded state by rotating it through 180~ with respect to the external system unit 2, whereby in each case in the closed position and in the open position, these two device parts are locked with respect to each other.
For the purpose of marking, the display unit 4 having a writable LCD display can be rotated from a position of rest (Figure 1), where the display unit 4 is located in a receptacle :10 on the inner surface of the system unit 2, by up to about 90~ and can be locked in a number of different positions.
For this purpose, as can be seen from Figures 2 and 3, a support 6 which can be folded into several positions is provided between the display unit 4 and the inner surface 5 of the system unit 2. This support 6 is composed of the strip-shaped supporting elements 7, 8 and 9, whereby in each case the free end region cf the supporting element 7 is hinged to the inner surface 5 of the system unit 2 and the free end region of the supporting element 9 is hinged to the display unit 4, while the individual supporting elements 7, 8 and 9 are connected to each other likewise by way of hinges.
In the position shown in Figure 1 the display unit rests in the receptacle 10 (Figure 2) of the system unit 2. In this position the individual supporting elements 7, 8 and 9 are folded and iie one on top of the other partially in the groove-shaped recess 11.
In the position shown in Figure 2 the display unit 4 is rotated and locked at an acute angle with respect to the system unit 2. The supporting elements 7 and 8 lie folded in the recess 11, wh-ile the display unit 4 is supported on the supporting element 9 and is fixed in this position.
In the position according to Figure 3 the display unit 4 almost forms a right angle with respect to the system unit 2. In this respect, a11 three supporting elements 7, 8 and 9 of the support 6 have been extended so far that they are almost in one plane. In this respect, the individual hinges are assembled in such a way that a folding is only possible in one direction, while the other folding direction is blocked by the construction of the hinges. Ir. this way the display unit is held in an locked position also in the position shown in Figure 3.
A stable base for the display unit 4 has been created because of the system unit 2 and keyboard unit 3 located and locked in the open position with 180~
therebetween, and so the display unit 4 cannot tip over when operated, for example during marking by an input pen (not shown) .
