Abstract
The E Z -J HANGER secures soffit "J" trim to rafter, header or joists etc. It securely clips inside of soffit "J", held in place when soffit is inserted into "J" trim (channel). The hanger is sufficient in length to be nailed to the rafter, header or joist. The nail required is provided, crimped into the hanger. Manufactured in various lengths to suit roof pitch and overhang. Constructed of material with sufficient strength to support soffit and "J" trim. Also formed lengthwise for added strength.
Description
SPECIFICATIONS
Tfiis invention relates to tfie method of securing aluminum soffit and soffit '"J" trim (.cannel ) to the outside of a house, At the present time if is necessary to screw into mortar joint, drill a Bole and install wood or plastic plug, or a piece of wood is nailed to the rafter and "J" Ccfiannel is screwed or nailed to it.
The difficulties are that the nails have been known to come out, also it is time consuming and more expensive to accomplish.
This work is done while at the top of a ladder, requiring several tools, sometimes up two or three floors.
This hanger will provide a mechanical connection to the "J: trim (channel) which is more secure. The installer will require only a hammer to install.
continued SPECIFICATIONS
Continued It is not uncommon to have soffits come down, either due to wind work-~ng on nails, pulling them out, or the aluminum becomes brittle and nails cr screws pull through the lite material. It has been necessary in my business to re-attach and replace "J" and soffit, blown away by the storms. When the aluminum installer is installing "J" trim it is held against the wall at the appropriate height, and the formed end is pushed inside the "J" trim. It will "click" into place (when toe passes over the edge of "J" trim. With the E Z - J HANGER against the side of rafter, strike the head of nail until the hanger is held securely between the joist and the nail's head, Install on each rafter at 16 or 24" 0. C. or at a suitable distance to securely hold soffit and "J" trim The soffit material is installed in the "J" channel and the soffit is secured to fascia board. When installing soffit "J" on retro-fit jobs a similar version known as the "R" type can be formed and secured to under-side of wood soffit. It's use is to hold "J" at the proper height and is especially helpful when fascia board extends more than 3/4" below the wood soffit. Enclosed drawings indicate.
DRAWING AA Front view, side view, centre cross section, DRAWING BB Cross section of hanger and "J" trim, pictorial view.
DRAWING CC R type, front view, side view, centre cross section and pictorial.
CHART #1 indicates hanger length compared to roof pitch and soffit overhang.
The inventor claims an improvement on patent #1,311,599 soffit hanger.
