Abstract
OBJECTIVE
Many senior patients complain of difficulty accessing their medication from blister packs. The handicapped have even more difficulty and in some cases, are unable to dispense their medication.
COMPONENTS
The dispensing aid is a senior friendly device to help seniors gain easy access to their medication.
This 4-part device has three injection moulded parts and one extruded, diecut part.
1) INJECTION MOULDED BOTTOM BASE TO HOLD A FOAM PAD which has a "D" style (female) snap-in hinge AND IS THE SUPPORT FOR THE PLUNGER.
2) A CUSTOM DIECUT SILICONE FOAM PAD which has a special design diecut allowing the plunger to penetrate through the foam pad without tearing the ends.
3) A CLEAR INJECTION MOULDED TOP which has an integrated plunger to push the tablets and capsules out of their blister packs, a "D" style (male) snap-in hinge at the foot and a recessed area for an ID or logo insert.
4) A SNAP-IN INJECTION MOULDED ID OR LOGO INSERT.
Operation - Lift the top. Place the blister pack containing medication with the blister side up. Place one blister cavity under the plunger and, making sure theplunger is aligned with the center of product to be pushed out, apply light pressure on the logo areas. The medication will be pushed through the foil on the bottom of the blister pack. Simply raise the top, remove the blister pack and the medication will remain on the foam pad to be easily picked up by a senior.
