Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:
The present invention relates to a doll with alterable audio and personification features and comprises a body portion containing an audio device such as a tape player, for example, and a doll's head removably secured to the body portion and interchangeable with other different doll's heads.
Accordingly, not only is the doll capable of playing different audio selections but it is additionally capable of appearance changes in accordance with those different audio selections.
The present invention relates to a doll with alterable audio and personification features and comprises a body portion containing an audio device such as a tape player, for example, and a doll's head removably secured to the body portion and interchangeable with other different doll's heads.
Accordingly, not only is the doll capable of playing different audio selections but it is additionally capable of appearance changes in accordance with those different audio selections.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a doll containiny an audio device capable of playiny different audio seiections and 5 - having a removeabl~,head which is interchangeable with other doll's heads to change the appearance o~ the doll in accordance with the different audio selec-tions played.
BACKGROUND OF TH~ INVENTION:
Recently there has been very strong interest in different types o-F toys and novelty items. Although generally unrelated, two specific items that have been very popular include the portable stereo and man~ of the new dolls such as, for example, the Cabbage PatchTM doll.
In the past there has been some effort to incorporate audio features into a doll. For example, United States Patent 3080679, issued March 12th, 1963 to Hardigan and United States Patent 3162980 issued December 29th, 1964 to Hellman, both show talking dolls. However, the dolls according to both of the above patents have a permanent appearance and are not capable of altering that appearance according to different audio selections played from the dolls.
United States Patent 3538638 issued November 10th, 1970 to M.I. Glass, et al, shows a doll which is capable, to a limited extent, of changing facial appearances, however, the doll in this patent 9 which has a rotatable head, ~ ' ~

SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENlION:
The present invention provides a doll with audio and personification features, both of which are alterable within the doll. The doll comprises a body portion containing an audio device with controls located externally on the body portion and a doll's head, which is removeably secured to the body portion and interchangeable with other different doll's heads to enable appearance changes of the doll in accordance with different audio selections. The audio device itself is preferably in the form of a tape player accessible through the body portion for play-back of prerecorded tapes, recorded with, for example, hit songs of the most up-to-date and popular artists. In accordance with the present invention, the ~5 appearance of the doll can then be altered through the interchangeable head to simulate the artist whose music is selected to be played from the doll.

The above, as well as other advantages and features of the present invention, will be described in greater detail according to the preferred embodiments of the present invention in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a doll according -to a preferred embodiment of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the doll of' Figure 1 with the clothes removed from the doll and showing external controls for the audio device within the doll;
Figure 3 is a partially exploded rear perspective view of the doll of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a sectional view of the doll of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is an enlarged perspective view of the upper part of the body portion and a section of the head of the doll of Figure 2;
DETAILED DESCRIPTION ACCORDING TO THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
ACCûRDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION:
Figures 1 and 2 show a portable doll, generally indicated at 1, of a size that it can be easily carried. As can be seen in Figure 1, the doll is clothed to hide the functional aspects of the doll.

~ 3 5,t3 Referriny more to Figures 2 and 3, -the doll includes a main body portion 3, fitted with a doll's head 5. Located interiorly of the bocly portion is an audio device 7 which, in this particular embodiment of the invention, comprises a portable cassette tape player for receiving a cassette tape 9 and operated by batteries 11. The controls 15 for the cassette player extend externally of the body portion of the doll and include a jack outlet 17 for receiving the jack 19 of a stereo headset 21.
Access to the tape player is provided by a removeable panel 13 at the back of the doll. This enables the removal and replacement of tape 9 with other different tapes to vary the audio selections played from the doll. It will be seen in Figure 4 that the doll is further provided with a small amplifier 23 which plays through the front of the doll as shown in Figure 2, or, as mentioned above, which can be played directly through the stereo headset 21.
As best seen in Figure 5, the body portion 3 of the doll is formed from -Forward and rearward sections 3A and 3B, respectively. These two sections enabl,e further access to the interior components of the doll in the event, for example, that the audio device requires any repair work, or the like.
As will be understood from the description above, the doll is adapted to receive different prerecorded tapes and therefore capable of playing, for example, the songs of various .

. ' ,. , ~ '~ ' " ' ' ' ~Z~3~i5 different artists. Furthermore, in accordance with -the present invention, the appearance of those artists can be simulated due to the removeable and interchangeable aspect of head 5 on body 3, as again, well shown in figures 3 and 5 of the drawings.
Here it will be seen that the upper end of the body portion is provided with an elongated plate member 25 which is designed to fit into a correspondingly shaped slot ~7 provided at the lû underside of the doll's head. It should be noted that the direction of the locking plate 25 and slot '~7 are such that the head is initially fitted to the body portion and -then twisted to face in the appropriate direction where plate 25 locks in-to the base of the head at generally right angles to slot 27.
Further provided within the head is a spring 29 to apply a locking pressure on plate 25 and to prevent inadvertent untwisting of the head to a release position.
As will be appreciated, many different heads with different facial appearances can be interchanged on to the bo~y of the doll. Accordingly, if one has a certain favourite song artist, that artist's music can be recorded on cassette 9 and played from the body of the doll. At the same time, a head, having the appearance of that song artist, can also be fitted to the body so that not only will the doll reproduce the songs of, but, in addition, will have the appearance of that artist.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a doll containiny an audio device capable of playiny different audio seiections and 5 - having a removeabl~,head which is interchangeable with other doll's heads to change the appearance o~ the doll in accordance with the different audio selec-tions played.
BACKGROUND OF TH~ INVENTION:
Recently there has been very strong interest in different types o-F toys and novelty items. Although generally unrelated, two specific items that have been very popular include the portable stereo and man~ of the new dolls such as, for example, the Cabbage PatchTM doll.
In the past there has been some effort to incorporate audio features into a doll. For example, United States Patent 3080679, issued March 12th, 1963 to Hardigan and United States Patent 3162980 issued December 29th, 1964 to Hellman, both show talking dolls. However, the dolls according to both of the above patents have a permanent appearance and are not capable of altering that appearance according to different audio selections played from the dolls.
United States Patent 3538638 issued November 10th, 1970 to M.I. Glass, et al, shows a doll which is capable, to a limited extent, of changing facial appearances, however, the doll in this patent 9 which has a rotatable head, ~ ' ~

SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENlION:
The present invention provides a doll with audio and personification features, both of which are alterable within the doll. The doll comprises a body portion containing an audio device with controls located externally on the body portion and a doll's head, which is removeably secured to the body portion and interchangeable with other different doll's heads to enable appearance changes of the doll in accordance with different audio selections. The audio device itself is preferably in the form of a tape player accessible through the body portion for play-back of prerecorded tapes, recorded with, for example, hit songs of the most up-to-date and popular artists. In accordance with the present invention, the ~5 appearance of the doll can then be altered through the interchangeable head to simulate the artist whose music is selected to be played from the doll.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION ACCORDING TO THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Figures 1 and 2 show a portable doll, generally indicated at 1, of a size that it can be easily carried. As can be seen in Figure 1, the doll is clothed to hide the functional aspects of the doll.

~ 3 5,t3 Referriny more to Figures 2 and 3, -the doll includes a main body portion 3, fitted with a doll's head 5. Located interiorly of the bocly portion is an audio device 7 which, in this particular embodiment of the invention, comprises a portable cassette tape player for receiving a cassette tape 9 and operated by batteries 11. The controls 15 for the cassette player extend externally of the body portion of the doll and include a jack outlet 17 for receiving the jack 19 of a stereo headset 21.
Access to the tape player is provided by a removeable panel 13 at the back of the doll. This enables the removal and replacement of tape 9 with other different tapes to vary the audio selections played from the doll. It will be seen in Figure 4 that the doll is further provided with a small amplifier 23 which plays through the front of the doll as shown in Figure 2, or, as mentioned above, which can be played directly through the stereo headset 21.
As best seen in Figure 5, the body portion 3 of the doll is formed from -Forward and rearward sections 3A and 3B, respectively. These two sections enabl,e further access to the interior components of the doll in the event, for example, that the audio device requires any repair work, or the like.

. ' ,. , ~ '~ ' " ' ' ' ~Z~3~i5 different artists. Furthermore, in accordance with -the present invention, the appearance of those artists can be simulated due to the removeable and interchangeable aspect of head 5 on body 3, as again, well shown in figures 3 and 5 of the drawings.
Here it will be seen that the upper end of the body portion is provided with an elongated plate member 25 which is designed to fit into a correspondingly shaped slot ~7 provided at the lû underside of the doll's head. It should be noted that the direction of the locking plate 25 and slot '~7 are such that the head is initially fitted to the body portion and -then twisted to face in the appropriate direction where plate 25 locks in-to the base of the head at generally right angles to slot 27.
Further provided within the head is a spring 29 to apply a locking pressure on plate 25 and to prevent inadvertent untwisting of the head to a release position.
As will be appreciated, many different heads with different facial appearances can be interchanged on to the bo~y of the doll. Accordingly, if one has a certain favourite song artist, that artist's music can be recorded on cassette 9 and played from the body of the doll. At the same time, a head, having the appearance of that song artist, can also be fitted to the body so that not only will the doll reproduce the songs of, but, in addition, will have the appearance of that artist.

Claims (8)
PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A doll with alterable audio and personification features, said doll comprising a body portion containing an audio device accessible through said body portion for receiving different audio selections to be played from said doll with controls for said audio device being located externally on said body portion, and a doll's head removeably secured to said body portion and interchangeable with other different doll's heads to enable appearance changes of said doll in accordance with the different audio selections.
2. A doll as claimed in Claim 1 wherein said audio device comprises a tape player for playback of prerecorded audio material.
3. A doll as claimed in Claim 2 and including a head set for jacking to said tape player.
4. A doll as claimed in Claim 1 where said body portion is formed of separable body sections enabling easy access to said audio device.
5. A doll as claimed in Claim 1 wherein said audio device c?rises a battery operated tape player and wherein said body portion includes a door providing access to said tape player for replacement of tapes therein to provide the different audio selections.
6. A doll as claimed in Claim 1 wherein said doll's head is twist fitted to said body portion and is moveable from a locking to an unlocking position for removal and replacement thereof.
7. A doll as claimed in Claim 6 including a spring for retaining said head in the locking position
8. A doll as claimed in Claim 7 including an elongate plate and slot arrangement which align with one another in the unlocking position and which are located at right angles to one another in the locking position.
