Abstract

Invention Patent: <B> GENES OF RIBOFLAVINE BIOSYNTHESIS FROM PLANTS AND USES OF THE SAME '' <D>. The present invention provides plant riboflavin biosynthesis genes, including a gene encoding the ß subunit of the riboflavin synthase enzyme complex (lumazine synthase) and a gene encoding the bifunctional enzyme cyclohydrolasell GTP / DHBP synthase. Also disclosed are the recombinant preparation of these enzymes from riboflavin biosynthesis in heterologous hosts, screening chemicals for herbicidal activity using these recombinantly prepared enzymes and the use of the herbicidal chemicals thus identified to suppress the growth of unwanted vegetation. In addition, the present invention provides processes for the development of herbicidal tolerance in plants, plant tissues, plant seeds and plant cells using the riboflavin biosynthesis genes of the invention.
