Once in the lower slots, the fuel communicates with the other parts of the pumping chamber (54A, S4B), so that it fills the upper slots as well. Generally independent, helical fuel flow patterns are formed, which causes the fuel to become pressurized as it flows from the inlet to the outlet. These helical fuel flow patterns allow axial communication between vane receptacles (60A, 60B) and corresponding slots, but do not allow radial communication.
