Abstract
"ARTIGOS TERMOPLáSTICOS QUE EXIBEM ALTO TEOR DE PRATA SUPERFICIALMENTE DISPONìVEL". A presente invenção refere-se a aperfeiçoamentos na quantidade de prata disponível superficialmente em artigos termoplásticos compreendendo certos agentes antimicrobianos contendo prata. A invenção requer a incorporação de uma suficiente quantidade de um sal de ácido carboxílico dentro do artigo termoplástico, simultaneamente com o necessário agente antimicrobiano contendo prata. Certos sais de ácido carboxílico são seq³estradores de ácido padrões e lubrificantes para determinadas aplicações termoplásticas; no entanto, as quantidades requeridas no presente artigo termoplástico da invenção se encontram em excesso em relação às quantidades comumente adicionadas dentro de tais artigos e dos tipos de seq³estradores de ácidos possivelmente adicionados dentro de tais artigos termoplásticos alvo, os quais são, preferencialmente, compostos de hidrotalcita neutralizados, permitindo, dessa forma, ao sal de ácido carboxílico atuar da maneira da invenção. The present invention relates to improvements in the amount of silver available on the surface in thermoplastic articles comprising certain silver-containing antimicrobial agents. The invention requires the incorporation of a sufficient amount of a carboxylic acid salt into the thermoplastic article simultaneously with the necessary silver-containing antimicrobial agent. Certain carboxylic acid salts are standard acid sequestrants and lubricants for certain thermoplastic applications; however, the amounts required in the present thermoplastic article of the invention are in excess of the amounts commonly added within such articles and the types of acid sequestrants possibly added within such target thermoplastic articles, which are preferably compounds of neutralized hydrotalcite, thereby allowing the carboxylic acid salt to act in the manner of the invention. Surprisingly, such a high amount of these standard salts, as well as other potentially non-standard salts, present within the target thermoplastic article, release larger amounts of silver to the surface of the target article, thus allowing a greater degree of activity. antimicrobial, among other potential benefits for such a superficially available silver increase. Methods of producing such thermoplastic articles of the invention are also encompassed by the present invention.
