Abstract

The invention relates to a sorbent composition which is provided which may be employed for the desulfurization of a hydrocarbon-containing fluid such as diesel fuel and fractionated gasoline. The sorbent composition contains a backing component, a friction resistance enhancing component and a promoter component. The promoter component is present in a reduced valence state. Such sorbent composition may generally be prepared by a process of incorporating a backing component and a friction resistance enhancing component with a promoter component followed by the reduction whereby the valence state of the promoter component is reduced.
