Abstract

"COMPOSIçãO FARMACêUTICA, USO DE UMA COMPOSIçãO FARMACêUTICA ESTéRIL, E, MéTODO PARA MELHORAR A SOBREVIDA EM UM PACIENTE CRITICAMENTE DOENTE". A invenção diz respeito a um método de tratar e melhorar a sobrevida em pacientes criticamente doentes e ao uso de certas composições farmacêuticas sedativas estéreis para a fabricação de um medicamento para melhorar a sobrevida de tais pacientes; em particular tal uso de composições farmacêuticas que compreendem um agente sedativo removedor de radical livre (tal como propofol) e um agente quelante de íon metálico (tal como edetato) em associação com um diluente ou veículo farmaceuticamente aceitável, especialmente tal composição que compreenda uma emulsão de óleo em água em que o propofol dissolvido em um solvente imiscível em água e emulsificado com água e estabilizado por meio de um tensoativo e que ainda compreende um agente quelante de íon metálico (tal como edetato dissódico)."PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION, USE OF A STERILE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION, AND METHOD TO IMPROVE SURVIVAL IN A CRITICALLY SICK PATIENT". The invention relates to a method of treating and improving survival in critically ill patients and the use of certain sterile sedative pharmaceutical compositions for the manufacture of a medicament for improving the survival of such patients; in particular such use of pharmaceutical compositions comprising a free radical scavenging agent (such as propofol) and a metal ion chelating agent (such as edetate) in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier, especially such a composition comprising an emulsion of oil in water wherein the propofol is dissolved in a water immiscible solvent and emulsified with water and stabilized by a surfactant and further comprises a metal ion chelating agent (such as disodium edetate).
