Description

 <EMI ID=1.1>

 <EMI ID=2.1>

  Process for protecting refractory walls from

metallurgical containers.

The present invention relates to a method for protecting the refractory walls of metallurgical containers.

 <EMI ID = 1.1>

vacuum, mainly against the attack of liquid slags. This process is particularly advantageous in the case where the places to be protected are difficult to access during the operation.

 <EMI ID = 2.1>

operation, as for example in vacuum treatment tanks or in continuous casting distribution baskets.

To carry out repairs to the refractory walls of metallurgical vessels, these vessels are generally put to rest and the operation is carried out under vacuum under the conditions specific to the repairs to be carried out. This method obviously has the drawback of having to immobilize the container for the entire time necessary for repairs, which greatly increases the cost price of this container. Another drawback results from the fact that, in order to carry out repairs according to conventional methods, the surfaces to be treated must be easily accessible; That is not always the case.

The object of the present invention is a method making it possible to remedy these drawbacks by making it possible to integrate, in the work cycle, repairs located in the preferential wear zones.

The method, object of the present invention, is essentially characterized in that, at the appropriate moment during the cycle of use of the metallurgical vessel and preferably immediately after the casting of the treated metal, particularly in the case of vacuum treatment processes ,

a lance is introduced into said container, approximately at the height of the surface to be repaired, and a material suitable for repairing the damaged refractory is projected at the desired location.

According to the invention, the lance is capable of vertical translation and of rotation around the vertical translation axis.

Also according to the invention, the material suitable for repairing the damaged refractory is in the form of a finely divided powder.

In the case of vacuum treatment processes, the powder suitable for repairing the damaged refractory advantageously exhibits, according to the invention, a certain level of humidity and is optionally mixed with a binder.

CLAIMS

1. Method for protecting the refractory walls of metallurgical vessels, characterized in that, at the right time during the use cycle of the metallurgical vessel, and preferably immediately after the casting of the treated metal, particularly in the case of treatment processes under vacuum, a lance is introduced into said container, approximately at the height of the surface to be repaired, and a material suitable for repairing the damaged refractory is sprayed at the desired location.
