Abstract
Process for continuously and automatically casting and then stacking non-ferrous metal ingots comprises (a) casting a predetermined vol. of molten metal from a constant vol. casting ladle into a series of mould on a chain transporter, (b) mfg. the ingots by driving the transporter and moving the moulds first to a slag skimming station where slag foam at the top of the metal in the moulds is removed, then to a cooling station, (c) stripping the ingots from the moulds and arranging them in a pile on a second transporter, the pile consisting of a series of superposed layers of ingots, the ingots of adjacent layers being disposed in 2 different arrangements, (d) weighing the pile of ingots having moved it to a weighing station on the second transporter, and (e) tying up the pile of ingots using a binding appts. having moved them to a binding station when weighing is completed. Continuous automatic appts. produces high quality ingots of e.g. Pb. Zn or Al at high output rate.
