(I) (where R is H or alkyl; R1 and R2 are alkyl; R3 is opt. substd. phenyl or aralkyl; R4 is H or alkyl; A is alkylene; R5 is alkyl, alkoxy opt substd. by alkoxy or and R6 is NO2 or CF3) are prepd. froma benzaldehyde. R2 COCH2COON-NR3R4 and R1 C/NHR); CHC OR5 or from pdts. prepd. by reacting two of the starting material with the third. Thus (I. R = H, R1 = R2 = Me, R3 = PhCH2 R = Me, R5 = iso PrO and R6 = 3.NO2) is prepd from beta-(N benzyl-N-methylamino)ethyl acetoacetate, isopropyl beta-aminocrotonate are 3-nitro benzaldehyde.
