Abstract

A pair of synthetic filaments (e.g. of nylon) are fed from separate packages (22,23) and drawn together by a draw roll (36) which draws them around a snubbing pin (35) and the filaments are then twisted together e.g. by an inclined pulley (43) and heat fixed by passage over a plate heater (50). The filaments are then separated by a separator device (55) and taken-up on separate packages. The device operates at high speeds and has a high production rate. Four filaments (Y1,Y2,Y3,Y4) are treated simultaneously, the filaments being combined into two pairs (Y,Y'). The filaments are wrapped several times around the snubbing pin (35) and are wrapped several times around the draw roll (36) and a separator roll (37). The filaments are passed over the plate heater (50) at a faster speed than they are fed from their supply packages.
