Het is reeds gekend polyvinylacetaten te gebruiken als blijvende kleefstof op plooibaren achtergrond. Ook polyvinylethers, alleen of gemengd met andere polyvinylverbindingen werden tot gelijkaardige doeleinden aangewend. Ook gummi vermengd met natuur- of kunstharsen zijn hiervoor gekend. 



   Wij hebben gevonden, dat polystyrolen, bijzonderlijk deze met geringen polymerisatiegraad, met voordeel tegenover de hooger vernoemde stoffen kunnen gebruikt worden, ook zonder toevoegsels, als blijvende kleefstof. 



   Teneinde wel bepaalde kleefeigenschappen te bekomen kunnen de polystyrolen vermengd worden met passende weekmakers als b;v. tricresylphosphaat, palatinolen, enz., met vulstoffen als zinkoxyde, talk, enz., met natuur- en kunstharsen. 



   De polystyrolen met of zonder bijvoegsels worden in een passend oplosmiddel (benzeen,   ethylacetaat,   enz. ) gebracht. 



   Deze blijvende   kleefmassa   krijgt een bijzondere gebruikswaarde wanneer ze aangebracht wordt op een drager, die bij voorkeur plooibaar is en den vorm heeft van bladen of banden. Zoo kan deze drager bestaan uit effen of korrelig papier voorzien van een afstootende ruglaag teneinde het oprollen van het afgewerkt materiaal toe te laten. Voor deze ruglaag komen op de eerste plaats kunstharsen in aanmerking o.a. hooger gepolymeriseerde styrolen. Buiten papier kan ook weefsel gebruikt worden met of zonder ruglaag, evenals film.

   Hare kleefkracht is van onbeperkten duur en wordt bekomen door toepassen van een lichte   drukking.   Tegenover bestaande kleefbanden zijn polystyrolen, alleen of in mengsel, minder vezelig zoodat de ruglaag, zelfs na lang vochtig bewaren op tropische temperatuur, hoegenaamd geen spoor kleefstof draagt. De sterkte   harer   kleefkracht is zoo groot, dat een zeer dunne   laag   volstaat en er geen gevaar bestaat van uitloopen, zoodat b.v. de rolfilm niet hapert bij het afrollen. 



   Dit   kleefmateriaal   vindt menigvuldige toepassing. In de photographie kan men het gebruiken onder vorm van papierstrook voor het kleven van de film op den duplexband   (rolfilm) .   Bij verpakking kunnen linnen kleefbanden aangewend worden voor het dichtkleven van blikken   doozen. Al   of niet vermengd met ontsmettings- en/of geneesmiddelen vindt het toepassing als medische pleisters. Verder komen nog in aanmerking vliegenvangers (met passende toevoegsels),   isoleermateriaal   en alle andere kleefdoeleinden. **WAARSCHUWING** Einde van DESC veld kan begin van CLMS veld bevatten **.

It is already known to use polyvinyl acetates as a permanent adhesive on a pliable background. Also, polyvinyl ethers, alone or mixed with other polyvinyl compounds, have been used for similar purposes. Gum mixed with natural or synthetic resins are also known for this.



   We have found that polystyroles, in particular those with a low degree of polymerization, can be used advantageously over the above-mentioned substances, even without additives, as a permanent adhesive.



   In order to obtain certain adhesive properties, the polystyroles can be mixed with suitable plasticizers such as e.g. tricresyl phosphate, palatinols, etc., with fillers such as zinc oxide, talc, etc., with natural and synthetic resins.



   The polystyroles with or without additives are placed in an appropriate solvent (benzene, ethyl acetate, etc.).



   This permanent adhesive mass acquires a special utility value when it is applied to a support, which is preferably pliable and in the form of sheets or bands. Thus, this carrier may be of plain or granular paper with a repellent backing to allow the finished material to roll up. In the first place synthetic resins are suitable for this back layer, including higher polymerized styrols. In addition to paper, fabric can also be used with or without backing, as well as film.

   Its adhesive strength is of unlimited duration and is obtained by applying a light pressure. Compared to existing adhesive tapes, polystyroles, alone or in mixture, are less fibrous so that even after long moist storage at tropical temperatures, the backing does not bear any trace of adhesive. The strength of its adhesive force is so great that a very thin layer is sufficient and there is no risk of run-off, so that e.g. the roll film does not falter when unwinding.



   This adhesive material finds many applications. In photography it can be used in the form of a paper strip for sticking the film to the duplex tape (roll film). In packaging linen adhesive tapes can be used for sealing tin boxes. Whether or not mixed with disinfectants and / or medicines, it finds application as medical plasters.
