Abstract

A steam iron has a liquid container (12) and a heatable body (4, 6) provided at its bottom side with steam outlets (18) and at its top side with at least two liquid evaporation chambers (8, 22). Each evaporation chamber (8, 22) has at least two drip-feeds (14, 24). At least one evaporation chamber (8) is in communication on the one hand with liquid container (12) through a liquid feeding line (10) and on the other hand with steam outlets (18). At least another evaporation chamber (22) is in communication through a drip-feeding channel (36) with liquid container (12) and with a steam spraying nozzle (28) located at the tip of the steam iron. In order to enlarge at least said other evaporation chambers (22) in the flow direction, the other evaporation chambers (27) is designed as a steam channel into which liquid is fed at the drip-feed (24) located in the front area of the top side of the heatable body (4, 6). The steam channel extends from the drip-feed (24) towards the rear end of the steam iron and is deflected towards the steam spraying nozzle (28) of the steam iron.
