Abstract
A thermal treatment process and installation for carbon-containing material are disclosed. The installation has at least one shaft kiln to which thermal energy may be applied and having at least two reactors, a carbon-containing material feeding device, a treated carbon-containing material discharge arrangement, a process gas inlet, a process waste gas outlet and means for generating thermal energy. The reactors form autonomous units inside the shaft kiln (12) and have a common feeding arrangement. The reactors (reaction tubes (14)) are separately charged with carbon-containing material and when at least one thermal energy is simultaneously applied thereto different charges of treated carbon-containing material are produced.
