Description
AUSTRALIA Paten& Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT MULTIFUNCTIONAL SERVICES PENETRATION PLATE The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: MULTIFUNCTIONAL SERVICES PENETRATION PLATE For many years, pressure containment in laboratories has been a major failure during the testing process via services penetrations through the floors, walls, ceilings, etc. The need to provide a simple solution to adapt various service penetrations saw the need of our multifunctional services penetration plate. The technical aspect of this multifunctional services penetration plate is that it has 30-40mm radius flange that allows a large service penetration for sealing and pressure containment through walls, ceilings, floors for single penetration services. The female or male thread allows the services to be adapted to the single penetration fitting via sealing to the adjustable threaded penetration tube. It is critical that the flange Is welded to the threaded tube on the inside face of the containment rooms thus stopping any leakage from within inside the room under extreme pressure. The threaded tube can be adapted to various sizes and the internal flange can be welded to either allow for an internal female connection or male connection to the internal room service. An example of this is a sprinkler head penetrating the ceiling system, would need a female connection at a certain thread size and diameter (refer Images A & B on the drawing titled 'Multifunctional Services Penetration Plate Images'). Whereas a hot or cold water connection under a basin through the containment wall would require the flange plate and thread to be welded in a male configuration (refer Images C & D on the drawing titled 'Multifunctional Services Penetration Plate Images'). Due to this flexibility, the multifunctional services penetration plate can be manufactured and/or adapted for multiple uses. The male arrangement allows for water penetrations; hydraulic waste penetrations; gas penetrations; data cables and other wall penetrations that will allow a threaded connection to the flange. Whilst the female arrangement allows for sprinkler heads; individual electrical cables and other wall penetrations that will allow a threaded connection to the flange. The multifunctional services penetration plate is manufactured using 316 stainless steel due to the corrosive environments normally found in the containment laboratories or clean room manufacturing facilities. A lesser grade of stainless steel could be used in a non-corrosive environment. The multifunctional services penetration plate can be adapted to suit any diameter of thread or screw pitch to suit any specific penetration needs to maintain pressure containment through the walls, floors or ceilings. This is simply achieved by manufacturing the multifunctional services penetration plate to suit the internal male or female connection in various diameters or thread pitches. Once these have been made it is a simple task of drilling a hole through the wall; placing the welded section of the multifunctional services penetration plate through the wall from the inside; and placing medical grade silicon on the back of the plate. This is followed by screwing the second flange plate on the outside of the wall, which then firmly tightens both the silicone and inside plate against the wall, thus eliminating any pressure loss from the wall, ceiling or floor. The versatility of the multifunctional services penetration plate is that it can be adapted to all single services penetrations through walls, whilst maintaining pressure testing of the rooms to pass the mandate Australians Standards. For more information about the Multifunctional Services Penetration Plate, please refer to the drawing titled 'SLV 107 - Multifunctional Services Penetration Plate Assembly'.
