Abstract

The invention relates to a slag door for metallurgic furnaces, wherein a slag door opening is provided in the upper receptacle of the furnace with a door tunnel having a sill plate and the slag door can be actuated by a closure mechanism. The closure mechanism is disposed outside the furnace wall and in front thereof, and the clear cross section of the slag door opening can be closed by means of at least two horizontally pivotable door leaves.

Description

Translation from German of PCT/DE2009/001475 Slag door for metallurgic furnaces 5 The invention concerns a slag door for metallurgical furnaces, wherein a slag door opening is provided in the upper receptacle of the furnace with a door tunnel with a sill plate and the slag door can be actuated by a closing mechanism. From WO 2007/147248 a slag door is known that has a three-piece construction. 10 In this case an upper door part or door leaf is constructed by a lid pivotable about a horizontal axis, while below it two finger-like door leaves, pivotable about vertical axes, are provided. 15 Both the pivoting mechanism for the lid and the adjusting or closing mechanism for the lower door leaf are provided in the furnace wall of the furnace receptacle. The object of the invention is to specify a slag door that has a less elaborate construction and in particular allows retrofitting on existing metallurgical furnaces 20 without considerable reconstruction. According to the invention this objective is achieved by a slag door for metallurgical furnaces, wherein a slag door opening is provided in the upper receptacle of the furnace with a door tunnel with a sill plate and the slag door can 25 be actuated by a closing mechanism. At the same time for the purpose of protection from the incoming scrap the closing mechanism is provided outside of the furnace wall, in front of it, the internal cross-section of the slag door opening can be closed by means of at least 30 two horizontally pivotable door leaves, wherein the door leaves can be locked at least in three positions, one of them being a first position in which the door leaves are essentially in one plane, the second position being which is perpendicular to the common plane and represents the open position, and a third position, in 2585252_ 1 (GHMatr) P86319.AU 2 which the door leaves form an acute angle pointing towards the interior of the furnace exposing an opening gap between the door leaves. Preferred configurations become apparent from the sub-claims and consist of that 5 that four door leaves are provided which are arranged in pairs above one another and that the door leaves can be actuated independently from one another. Preferably the door leaves can be locked also in a position, wherein they are open outward in an acute angle, so that a controlled slag removal is possible 10 through the gap formed between the edges of the door leaves. In the following the invention is explained with reference to the drawings. In this conjunction they show in: 15 Fig.1 - the construction, schematically, of a slag door, in fact with two door leaves, in various positions, Fig.2 - another construction of the two door leaves, and 20 Fig.3 - an embodiment with four door leaves. In these schematic illustrations the wall of a metallurgical furnace is merely indicated and is designated by 1. 25 In this wall a door opening 2 is provided. In front of the door opening 2, more precisely in front of the wall surface formed by the furnace wall, consequently placed before it, a frame 3 is symbolically indicated, on which the door leaves 4, 5 and 6-9 are fastened or held by them. 30 A closing mechanism (not illustrated) for the respective door is connected to the frame 3. 2585252_ 1 (GHMatter) P86319.AU 3 The individual illustrations in these figures show what positions the door leaves can occupy. Thus in Figs.1 and 2, in fact in the top illustration, the closed state is shown. 5 Depending on the requirement for access to the interior of the furnace, one or both doors can be opened. A special feature is then shown in each of the lower illustrations in Figs.1 and 2, 10 in fact in this case the door leaves include an acute angle pointing toward the interior of the furnace, resulting in a gap remaining between the opposing door leaves. This mobility of the door leaves makes a cleaning of the sill plate possible by pushing back the slag. 15 Finally, a position of the door leaves, wherein they form an outward open acute angle, is not illustrated in the drawings. Just like in the inward pointing position, in this case a gap is exposed between the opposing door leaves, enabling a controlled discharge of the slag. 20 It is, of course, obvious that the position of the door leaves can be locked in any other position, but essentially at least in the previously mentioned positions. If, for example, the door leaves can be individually adjusted and locked in various positions, it is possible to control the amount of slag discharged from the furnace 25 and/or the height of the slag in the furnace. Finally, Fig.3 also shows various positions of door leaves; in this case of four, arranged in pairs. 30 In the open position the bottom door leaves serve the purpose of slag control and cleaning of the sill plate, whereas the top door leaves, in their open position, serve the purpose of providing a further access to the interior of the furnace, to carry out, for example, maintenance work. 2585252_1 (GHMatters) P86319.AU 3a It is to be understood that, if any prior art publication is referred to herein, such reference does not constitute an admission that the publication forms a part of the common general knowledge in the art, in Australia or any other country. 2613464_1 (GHMatters) P86319.AU 30/03/11
