Abstract
A breast support (10) comprising a sheet of stretch fabric material (12) and a plurality of clips (18) for attachment to other clothing of a wearer. The breast support may be bounded by an elastic support (14).
Description
WO 2008/109939 PCT/AU2008/000335 TITLE "A BREAST SUPPORT" 5 FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a breast support. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION It is known to wear a brassiere to give support to breasts. It is known to have cups for the 10 breasts with straps to support the cups to go around the body or over the shoulders. It is known to use wire within the cups for extra support. For more vigorous activities such as sports, it is known to use cross-over straps that try to support excess breast bounce via support over the opposite shoulder to the adjoining cup. Breast lift and 15 subsequent breast fall is not eliminated from these brassieres and as such, breast bounce and discomfort is experienced by the user. The present invention attempts to overcome at least in part the aforementioned disadvantages of previously known breast supports. 20 SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In accordance with one aspect of the present invention there is provided a breast support characterized by comprising a sheet of stretch fabric material, wherein there are provided a plurality of attachment points and a plurality of clips attached to attachment points, the 1 WO 2008/109939 PCT/AU2008/000335 clips being arranged to be attached to other clothing of a wearer so as to restrain the breasts of the wearer during active movement. 5 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a front view of a breast support of the present invention. 10 Figure 2 is a view of the breast support of Figure 1 being worn by a wearer; Figure 3 is a partial view of the breast support of Figure 1 showing an upper clip attached to clothing; and Figure 4 is a partial view of the breast support of Figure 1 showing a lower clip being attached to clothing. 15 DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a breast support 10 comprising a generally rectangular sheet of material 12 bounded by an elastic support 14. The sheet of material 12 may be made from a stretch fabric material, such as a synthetic fabric which stretches 20 in all four directions. An example of a suitable stretch fabric material is eyelet hole Lycra. The elastic support 14 is connected over an outer edge of the sheet of material 12 by any convenient means such by sewing. The sheet of material 12 has corners 17. Each corner 17 has an attachment point 16 for a 2 WO 2008/109939 PCT/AU2008/000335 clip 18. The attachment point 16 which can have a triangular shape or an elongated strip, is made from a natural or synthetic material and is connected by any convenient means such as by sewing, across the corner 17. 5 Each clip 18 is attached onto an attachment point 16 at an adjacent corner 17. Each clip 18 may be two pronged such that it fastens to the clothing by gripping, clasping or hooking without slipping. The gripping, clasping or hooking portion of the clip 18 can be made from a material such as plastic, rubber or metal. 10 In use, the breast support 10 is fitted to existing clothing or a standard two-cup brassiere such that support is given to both breasts. To fit the breast support 10, upper two clips 18 along the same side of the sheet of material 12 are conveniently attached to respective of shoulder straps of the existing clothing or brassiere, approximately at the collarbone as 15 shown in Figure 2. The remaining two lower clips 18 are typically attached onto the waistband of trousers, shorts, skirts or undergarments as shown in Figure 3. The breast support 10 is manually adjustable by altering the attachment position of each of the clips 18 to clothing on an as needs basis until the substantially rectangular sheet of material 12 is arranged firmly and comfortably over both breasts. When correctly fitted, the active 20 user of the breast support 10 should experience a substantial decrease in the breast bounce as the breast support 10 restrains or anchors the breasts in a comfortable position. As shown in Figure 3, each upper clip 18 has a loop 20 which is sewn into place in the elastic support 18. Further the clip 18 is shown engaged with a brassier shoulder strap 3 WO 2008/109939 PCT/AU2008/000335 22. As shown in Figure 4, each lower clip 18 has a loop 20 which engages with a triangular attachment joint 18. Further, as best seen in Figure 4, each clip 18 may be provided 5 with a pair of jaws 24 which engage on opposite sides of the clothing such as a waist band 26. The jaws 24 are normally resiliently urged apart. Further, an over centre plate 28 is arranged to pivot into engagement with thejaws 24 and pivotally urge them together by means of a flange 30 at an inner end thereof. This ensures that the jaws 24 grip firmly the waist band 26. Also, the jaws 24 may be provided with teeth 28 to enhance the 10 degree of grip with the waist band 26. The teeth 28 on one jaw 24 mesh with teeth 28 on the other jaw 28. Further, when it is desired to release a clip 18 the plate 28 is pivoted away from the jaws 24 to enable them to pivot away from one another and release the clothing. The upper clips 18 are of 15 essentially the same constitution as the lower clips as illustrated in Figure 4. An example of a clip which may be used in the present invention is disclosed in US Patent 4901408 (Hermann). 20 Modifications and variations as would be apparent to a skilled addressee are deemed to be within the scope of the present invention. 4
