Description

AUSTRALIA PATENTS ACT 1900 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD
PATENT
EASY BANDAGE
WADDING
The following statement is a fall description of the invention, including the best method of perfonning it known to me.
I
This invention relates to improvement in devices for dressing and or poulticing wounds and injuries in human beings, animals, reptiles, and birds.
For many people and animals the discomfort and trauma of having wounds and injuries dressed in conventional wadding and bandaging can be stressful to both the person applying the wadding and bandage and the patient themselves. Conventional wadding used to dress injuries and wounds is reliant on the use of conventional bandaging which is unrolled around the wound or injury to secure the wadding over the injury site. This causes problems where the bandaging securing the wadding is applied too tightly causing loss of blood circulation to the bandaged area, or too loosely allowing the wadding to move over the surface of the injury or collapse onto itself causing further trauma to the wound or injury.
There is a Notice of Acceptance for a Patent Application serial number 754905 for an Easy Bandage Securing System. This application could be seen as ancillary to that application but must also be see as a stand-alone application.
The wadding is designed to apply in all types of injuries, including open wounds, granulating tissues, abscessing injuries and major bleeding situations. The design provides a cushioned effect to help protect the wound or injury site from further minor trauma while promoting draining of excess secretions from the wound or injury. The design also allows for the directed application of lotions, medications and poultices to the injury or wound itself and provide comfort to the patient.
The wadding will be constructed so as to incorporate a permeable covering layer made with resilient or non-resilient natural or man-made materials that is applied to the wound side, an absorbent iner lining composed of natural or man made fibres or a combination of both (such as cotton or sphagnum), which will act as a agent to collect any fluids from the trauma site, These two layers are compressed, glued, stamped or otherwise affixed into patterns dependant on the application of the wadding (with semi compressed centre markings to allow concentration of lotions, ointments, poultices to the wound or injury site), to an outer layer of resilient or non-resilient impermeable natural or man made materials or a combination of both that provides a barrier to fluid leakage. The outer barrier will have adhesive qualities to its outer side to allow the wadding to be secured to itself (in its continuous form) or for use in combination with the Easy bandage securing system. The outer barrier will also have a removable protective film/covering over the adhesive surface to allow the adhesive properties to be maintained until they are required during application.
In one form of the invention the Easy bandage wadding will be in the form of a continuos roIl. The inner permeable lining and absorbent materials will be compressed, glued, stamped or otherwise affixed at regular intervals in predefined patterns to prvent lotion poultice or body secretions from the wound to readily escape from the area of direct application to the wound or injury site. The predefined patterns may also continue semicompressed patterns to further assist in directed application of lotions and poultices to a wound or injury site, For application, the continuos roll will be cut to a length to allow the wadding to be wrapped around the effected limb or body area, with an excess in length of 2Ocms or more to allow the adhesive area of the wadding to be used to adhere the excess wadding to the wadding surrounding the limb or body area and affixing the wadding without the requirement of external bandaging. The compressed, glued stamped or otherwise affixed patterning of the inner layers to the outer adhesive layer assist in providing a semi-stable platform for adhering the wadding to itself This form of the invention can also be readily cut to size by the user into individual wadding units and used in conjunction with the Easy bandage securing system.
In another form of the invention the Easy bandage wadding will be in the form an individual unit with the inner permeable lining and absorbent materials compressed, stamped, and or glued at reglar intervals in predefined patterns to prevent lotion, poultice or body secretions from the wound to readily escape from the area of direct application to the wound or injury site. This form of the invention is specifically designed for use with the Easy bandage souring system.
To assist in understanding the invention, reference is now made to accompanying drawings that show one example of the invention, IN THE DRAWINGS: FIGURE 1 shows the Easy bandage wadding (Long wound application)(inmde view) in its continues form.
FIGURE 2 shows the Easy bandage wadding from a side view FIGURE 3 shows the Easy bandage wadding (small wound application) inside view) in its continuos form.
FIGURE 4 shows the Easy bandage wadding in its individual form (inside view) FIGURE 5 shows the Easy bandage wadding from a rear view FIGURE 6 shows the Easy bandage wadding self-adherence capability (contminuos role form) FIGURE 7 shows the Easy bandage wadding adhesive capability used to 'fix' wadding to Easy bandage securing system.
Referring to Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 it can be seen that the Easy bandage wadding according to this invention comprises a permeable covering layer made with resilient or non-resilient natural or man-made materials that is applied to the wound side an absorbent inner [ining composed of natural or man made fibres or a combination of both (such as cotton or sphagnumn) which will act as a agent to collect any fluids from the trauma site. These two layers are compressed, glued, stamped or otherwise affixed into patterns dependant on the application of the wadding (with semi compressed enMtre markings to allow concentration of lotions, ointments poultices to the wound or injury site to an outer layer of resilient or non-resilient impermeable natural or man made materials or a combination of both that provides a barrier to flWd leakage The outer barrier will have adhesive qualities to its outer side to allow the wadding to be secured to itself (in its continuous form) or for use in combination with the Easy bandage seuring system The outer barrier will also have a removable protective film/covering over the adhesive surface to allow the adhesive properties to be maintained until they are required during application Figure 5 shows the rear view of the Easy bandage wadding. The flat adhesive surface has no ndentations or marks and is covered by a removable backing material to maintain the adhesive properties of Easy bandage wadding material until usage. The removable backing material is perforated at regular intervals to allow easy removal by the user of the backing material to access the adhesive surface of the Easy bandage wadding Figure 6 shows the self-adherence capability of the Easy bandage wadding in the ontinuos role form (10).
Figure 7 shows the Easy bandage wadding used in conjunction with the Easy bandage securing system (either continuos roll fbrm cut to fit or individual form) and the use of the adhesive out layer in affixing the Easy bandage wadding to the Easy bandage securing device (11).
