Abstract

For the overheating protection or overload protection of, in particular, ballast units, a connecting terminal has a base body in which at least one terminal insert (2') with two connecting contact points (3') is provided, which contact points are electrically insulated from one another. Their conductive connection is achieved by means of a current- or temperature-sensitive protecting element (5) which is arranged in a retaining chamber (4, 4'), offset from the terminal inserts, and is connected to the two connecting contact points (3'). These contact points are constructed on two individual terminal bodies (12), each of which has a screw terminal for the conductor which is to be connected or the contact tongue of the ballast unit and a connecting contact element, designed as a crimped terminal or terminal clip for one contact end of the protecting element. The walls (6) of the retaining chamber (4) also provide air and leakage paths which are also adequate for transformers with relatively stringent safety requirements. <IMAGE>
