Abstract

In an eccentric disc grinder, the grinding disc unit (7), during the machining of the workpiece, preforms a movement revolving around the eccentric shaft (4) driving the grinding disc (8). In order to prevent the rotary speed of the grinding disc unit (7) from being able to increase up to the rotary speed of the eccentric shaft (4) during idling as a result of the friction occurring at the bearing (6) carrying the grinding disc unit (7), a magnetic or electro-magnetic coupling device with a coupling part (20) fixed to the housing and a coupling part (21) fixed to the grinding disc is arranged between the grinding disc unit (7) and the housing (3). The two coupling parts (20, 21) face one another in the axial direction. One of the coupling parts is a magnet part with a magnetic field extending to the other coupling part. This interacts with the other coupling part in such a way that a holding force is exerted on the coupling part (21) fixed to the grinding disc and is thus exerted on the grinding disc unit (7), which holding force is effective in the peripheral direction of the grinding disc unit (7). <IMAGE>
