Abstract
1. Process for the heat treatment of rails in the transitional region between the tongue end and the control rail section, the rail being heated above the austenitizing temperature and thereafter being cooled in still air, characterized in that the heat treatment is carried out simultaneously with or immediately after the hot forming of the tongue rail end, in that the transitional region is heated over a depth of at least 7 mm and at most 25 mm, and in that the heat treatment is controlled in such a way that the length of the zone of structural change obtained as a result of the forming of the tongue is kept smaller than 30 mm in the longitudinal direction of the rail.
