The present invention discloses a method for protecting against external corrosion the bottom part of storage tanks (2) which have a diameter larger than 20 metres, by fitting a waterproof skirt (14) around the bottom part of the tank, said skirt being designed to simultaneously suppress water infiltration by adequate insulation and eliminate condensation water by adequate ventilation. <IMAGE>
