Abstract

A sound insulating mat (1), for applying to the underside of rigid floor coverings (2), consists of a flexible thermoplastic with viscoelastic properties or a natural material with similar properties, is 1-3 mm thick and has ≥ 2 g/cm<3> density. Preferably, the mat material contains 10-40 wt.% ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer (with 10-45 wt.% vinyl acetate content) and 60-90 wt.% filler. Also claimed is a floor covering (2) having the above mat (1) on its underside, the floor covering (2) preferably being in the form of individual elements (2A) of a multilayer composite material having a highly compressed chipboard core.
