Process for processing diluted nitrous gases on ammonium nitrate with simultaneous recovery of alkali carbonate or alkali bicarbonate used to absorb the nitrous gases.

As is well known, when nitrous gases are absorbed in alkalis, mainly nitrite is obtained. However, the consumption of nitrite is limited, while production un) much exceeds demand. Large stalks of nitrite have therefore been converted into nitrate and sold as such. Since this nitrate has usually been made from relatively expensive soda, the earnings from selling the nitrate will be very little. A search has therefore been made for processes by means of which an economic

   Carbonic acid are consumed.

If boda a) Ahorptloll8l1litteì is used for the uitrosen ('ase, the procedure can for example be carried out as follows.

The nitrite or nitrite obtained in the absorption of nitrous gases in soda is converted into nitrate in a known manner by means of satpetic acid. The nitrate solution thus obtained is then mixed with the required amount of ammonium chloride,

if desired, can be converted into carbonate and used again to absorb nitrous gases. However, it is most advantageous to dissolve the bicarbonate directly in water and use the solution thus obtained for absorption x, which avoids the costs of calcining the bicarbonate to soda and the associated loss of ammonia.

In this way one can absorb practically unlimited amounts of nitrous gases with a relatively small amount of soda or bicarbonate, which circulates in the ancestors. The ammonium chloride solution obtained in the reaction

PATENT CLAIM: Method for processing dilute nitrous gases on ammonium nitrate with simultaneous recovery of alkali carbonate or alkali bicarbonate serving to absorb the nitrous gases, characterized in that the processing of the gases is carried out using reactions known per se in a cycle process in such a way that during absorption Nitrite or nitrite-nitrate mixture obtained from nitrous gases in alkali carbonate or alkali bicarbonate, after it has been converted into nitrate, is converted with chlorammonium into ammonium nitrate and alkali chloride, the latter is excreted while boiling and the ammonium nitrate is subsequently removed EMI2.4 which the latter in turn is used to implement additional amounts of alkali nitrate.
