Description

Process for the manufacture of patterned, openwork knitted fabrics on flat knitting mills.

The present invention relates to a method for flat weft knitting chairs for the production of that type of patterned, openwork knitted fabric in which the pattern is produced by stitches crossing one another in pairs in such a way that a stitch is missing between the crossings, which creates openings in the fabric that together with the crossed stitches result in the pattern.

The difference between the registered method and the known method is that in the known method one of the crossing pieces remains on its needle, while in the method according to the present invention the cleared needle receives a stitch. As a result, the product produced according to the new process has a completely different pattern, because openings and, at the same time, double meshes occur. The double stitches in the goods are advantageous for the formation of the pattern, because they better emphasize the pattern.

The value of the invention also lies in the fact that the method, i.e. the special sequence of operations, only requires half the time as when working according to known methods, and that the performance of the knitting chair is increased as a result.

The new method described consists essentially in that one stitch of the stitch pair intended for patterning is brought onto the chair needle closest to its neighboring stitch, whereupon the other stitch comes onto the chair needle that has become free when the former is hung.

The latter operation is illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 3 by an exemplary embodiment.
