The same game is repeated until the blocks no longer take up iron and the solidification process is over. Too frequent refilling is expediently made unnecessary by having a reservoir at the upper end of the funnel. a attaches (Fig. 1) and this fills with liquid iron after the surface has cooled down.
In this way you can be sure that even the heaviest blocks will be completely free of voids, not only in their upper part, but along their entire length. The procedure is very easy to carry out and the costs are negligible. Furthermore, the result is that the segregation products, which are known to remain liquid until the end due to their low melting point, are pressed into the block head and replaced in the usable part of the block by pure material that is right from the pouring light. As a result, blocks treated according to the present process show a very uniform composition in all their parts.
The pouring of water onto the block heads can be continued after the surface has solidified and thereby the cooling of the whole block can be accelerated if the quality of the material allows this measure. Otherwise, the solidification
