Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for the production of an elastic, horn-like product from animal
Bare skin.
A method for hardening and waterproofing animal skin pores has already become known through patent specification No. 56536, in which the skin pores are first hardened and then provided with a corresponding coating. However, in addition to its rather expensive nature, this process has the disadvantage that the substances used here, i. i. Amyl acetate. Acetone, celluloid and the rubber solution are flammable. so that the use of the material produced is very limited.
According to the present invention, these deficiencies are remedied in such a way that
EMI1.1
hardened, d. i. Made insensitive to moisture and moisture and then immersed in a bath of nitric acid diluted with water.
It is already known (see patent specification No. 999) to treat the skins with weak formaldehyde solutions which contain varying amounts of free acid depending on the tanned material, but this skin treatment results exclusively in a leather-like product.
EMI1.2
can now be dried and stretched and maintains the appearance and properties of the horn.
