 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Link i is now fixed in its position and the closed space between the legs c in the case of the link f can be expanded in the way that can be seen in the case of the link g; if necessary, the link 1 can be completed before the expansion, i.e. H. the eyes d of the same are brought into contact with one another, so that the widening of the slot between the legs can take place at the same time for both legs. Link I is now in such a condition that the next following link can be hung in the same way, whereupon the widened slot can be closed and the link can be finally completed.

   With appropriate heating and rapid execution of the work in presses, it is possible to close the legs, the U-shaped bend, the expansion and repeated closure of the legs, as well as the closure of the two-part eye until the chain link is permanently shaped perform.

   As can be seen from the above, each link of such a chain, manufactured according to the method described above, consists of two identical eyes, one of which consists of two parallel parts over its entire extent, while the second eye consists of two parallel parts on the one hand and one on the other uniform whole is formed. At the point of intersection of the eyes, the material for transmitting the forces from one eye to the other is arranged between the two eyes and the transition in the intersection angle takes place gradually.

   The size of the individual eyes is such that the eyes can move freely within one another without the space required for this being exceeded.
 EMI2.1
   L A process for the production of non-welded chains from links with two mutually perpendicular eyes, characterized in that the halves of the eyes provided at the ends of the workpiece intended to form the chain link and the legs, which form the middle piece with the halves of the eyes, which has the full cross-section of the chain link connect and form the second eye with the middle piece,

   are closed before the U-shaped bend of the workpiece perpendicular to the plane of the eye halves and are separated from each other after the production of the outline shape of the chain link for hanging the next chain link, whereupon they are finally closed after hanging the next chain link.
