Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Trommelbremse

  drum brake
The invention relates to a drum brake of the type known per se, in which the drum and the brake shoes are provided with mutually engaging grooves or ribs running in the circumferential direction. With such a brake, the braking surface is enlarged, but the removal of brake dust and cooling are more difficult.

   The aim of the invention is to eliminate these disadvantages and it consists in that adjacent grooves are connected to one another at several points by means of notches which run essentially parallel to the axis. These notches cool the brake because the notches cause or support air movement. This also removes brake dust.

   Details and features of the invention are explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, which illustrates an example embodiment of the drum brake according to the invention. The figures show: FIG. 1 a cross section through the drum brake, FIG. 2 a schematic diagram of the drum brake, partly in cross section, and FIG. 3 an oblique view partly in section of a brake shoe.

   The drum brake according to the invention has the usual structure, for. B. an inner shoe brake with a brake drum 1 and 2 brake shoes. The drum brake can, for. B. for motor vehicles use, but is also suitable for other purposes.

   The coming into contact braking surfaces of the drum and the brake shoes are provided with grooves 3 and 4, the z. B. have a V-shaped cross section. The flanks of the grooves are expediently more flatly inclined than the angle of friction between the material of the brake drum and the brake lining of the brake shoes. This ensures that the brake is released safely. By arranging grooves, the braking surface is significantly increased, u. between more than twice the usual arrangement of flat braking surfaces.

   The ribs remaining between the grooves can have a flattened cross section at the tip 5. The groove bottom can also be flattened, so that the grooves or ribs have a substantially trapezoidal cross-sectional shape.

   To improve the cooling effect, which is particularly important considering the large braking surface while maintaining the external dimensions of a drum brake, adjacent grooves 3 of the drum, but also adjacent grooves 4 of the brake shoes, are connected to one another by transverse notches 7. In addition, cooling fins 8 can be arranged on the outside of the brake drum. The air movement caused by the notches 7 inside the brake not only improves the cooling of the brake, but also causes the brake dust to be removed.
