  Docht aus Glasfasern
 EMI1.1

  Glass fiber wick
 EMI1.1

It has been found that the wick described above has a long useful life and is highly effective due to its high degree of capillarity.

In the quantitative production of such wicks, it is useful to expose the glass thread at intervals to the action of a flame and at the same time to a pull so that if the thread is temporarily held in place above the flame, the fibers are melted together and the thread is separated with both ends closed.

The severed pieces are therefore fused together at both ends, and after inserting such a piece into a gasoline lighter, the upper end of the wick can be cut off to allow the individual fibers to spread out. If desired, cotton fibers and the like can be used. The like. The glass fiber wick are added, but it is preferable that most of the wick thus formed consists of glass threads.

When using the invention to manufacture a flat wick e.g. B. for oil stoves, a number of glass threads are woven into a ribbon that corresponds to the width of the wick holder, and then the ribbon is divided by pulling in the longitudinal direction and the action of heat. A long, narrow one is preferably used for this
Flame perpendicular to the tape.

The invention can also be applied to wicks of other shapes, e.g. B. for wicks of cylindrical shape, which are usually used in oil stoves of certain types, also in braided or knitted form for cooking,
Heating or lighting purposes for burners with liquid fuel including petroleum and spirit.
