There are joints in and on buildings that are provided with a mostly elastic grout. Such joints are provided, for example, as expansion joints in areas where different materials meet.

Expansion joints are also e.g. provided in the floor area to subdivide floating floor coverings. In the sanitary area, such joints arise in the connection area between sanitary installations (e.g. a bathtub) and an adjoining wall covering (e.g. in the form of tiles). Furthermore, such joints also occur in the transition area between a floor covering and a wall covering, with tiles and mosaics (e.g. in swimming pools) and also in room corners, to name just a few areas.

If there are signs of settlement of the grout, or if the grout should have become unsightly, it is often removed from the joint with a carpet knife before new grout is then introduced. The cut protection strip has a strip length and a perpendicular strip width in all embodiments.
