Process for the production of antihalation and filter sheets.

It is known to use green triphenylmethane series dyes to make antihalation and filter layers. However, it is not possible with these dyes to produce layers that are completely bleached out during the development process. Usually a more or less strong coloration remains. or the color appears or intensifies again during the subsequent drying. It has also been shown that various representatives of this series, for example malachite green, have a strong desensitizing effect on photographic emulsions. This disadvantage is less of the sulfurized dyes commercially available, but these in turn show the disadvantage of incomplete discoloration mentioned at the beginning.

It has now been found that both of the above-mentioned disadvantages, insufficient or reversible discoloration and desensitization, can be avoided if diaminotriphenylmethane dyes are used which only have a sulfo group in the p-position of the amine-free benzene ring according to the following constitution:
 EMI1.1
RI, R2, RJ and R4 are customary aliphatic or cyclic radicals which can be simple or substituted, but which do not carry a sulfo group; U, V. W. X, Y, and Z can be hydrogen or others. be common substituents in organic dye chemistry.

Chemically, there are dyes of a similar kind that can also be decolorized with sodium hydroxide solution. known. So far, however, they have only been known for dyeing purposes, but not in terms of their usability in photographic practice. A z. B. The dye in question here, Helvetiagrin, is no longer manufactured in the factory and is no longer available in stores. The examination of these dyes for photographic purposes has led to the unforeseeable finding that they are particularly suitable for the production of antihalation and filter layers.
