 EMI1.1

 EMI1.1

The invention relates to a cooler intended in particular for internal combustion engines of vehicles and aircraft, the water pipes of which are helically wound in a known manner.

In order to increase the cooling effect of such a cooler and keep the manufacturing costs as low as possible and to create an easy option for repairs by dismantling the cooler, according to the invention, both between the water pipes that are located directly next to one another, each wound after a multi-thread screw, and in those of the Holes enclosed by screw threads flat sheet metal strips lying in the direction of travel are arranged over the entire height of the cooling elements and are attached to them.

The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention in a partially sectioned side view and in plan.

In the illustrated embodiment, each cooling element consists of water pipes 1-4 wound after a four-start screw. In the cavities enclosed by the screw threads, flat sheet metal strips 5 are arranged over the entire height in the direction of travel indicated by an arrow. Likewise, flat sheet metal strips 6 lying in the direction of travel are inserted and fastened between the water pipe elements standing directly next to one another in each row over the entire height. These metal strips enlarge the cooling surface without increasing the driving resistance.
 EMI1.2

The cross section of the water pipes can have any shape; the drawing shows tubes of oval cross-section.
