Abstract
Cepas de levadura manipuladas mediante ingeniería genética para producir productos de fermentación a partir de ácidos urónicos tales como ácido galacturónico o ácido glucurónico. Para ello, la cepa de levadura fue modificada por introducción de a) genes que codifican enzimas de una vía de plantas de tipo salvaje y que tienen la capacidad de convertir un ácido D-urónico en pentosa-1-fosfato y dióxido de carbono; b) un gen que codifica una enzima con capacidad para convertir una pentosa-1P en una pentosa; y c) genes que codifican enzimas con capacidad para convertir una pentosa en al menos uno entre xilulosa y xilulosa 5-fosfato. La presente se relaciona además con el uso de tales cepas de levadura modificadas genéticamente en la producción de productos de fermentación y con un proceso para producir un producto de fermentación. El proceso comprende los pasos de a) fermentar un medio con una célula de levadura de la presente, con lo cual el medio contiene o es alimentado con una fuente de un ácido urónico; y donde la célula de levadura fermenta al ácido urónico en el producto de fermentación; y, opcionalmente, b) recuperar el producto de fermentación. This is also related to the use of such genetically modified yeast strains in the production of fermentation products and to a process to produce a fermentation product. The process comprises the steps of a) fermenting a medium with a yeast cell of the present, whereby the medium contains or is fed with a source of a uronic acid; and where the yeast cell ferments uronic acid in the fermentation product; and, optionally, b) recover the fermentation product. The preferred fermentation product is ethanol.
