Abstract

An atomizing nozzle is operatively coupled to a first of the end walls and having an inlet portion adjacent to the chamber and an outlet in communication with the atmosphere outside the closed container. A frangible barrier is interposed between the inlet portion of the nozzle and the chamber and responds to a predetermined pressure to fracture to allow communication between the nozzle and the chamber. A piston is located between the end walls and shim around an inner periphery of the side wall to divide the chamber into two sections. A first of these sections, between the piston and the first end wall, is filled with a quantity of water and comprises a larger fractional portion of the chamber volume. The piston slidably displaceable relative to the end wall in the direction of the first end wall in response to a force exerted on the piston to exert force on the amount of water to initially defract the frangible barrier and to subsequently supply a mist of water through the atomizing nozzle. A gas generator communicates with the second section to deliver high pressure gas to exert force on the piston causing a fine mist to flow from the nozzle. As a variant, a duct can be arranged from the nozzle to the second section, and the nozzle can influence venturis located between the first section and the duct. The generated gas will flow through the duct to further drag the water by venturi effect.
