ISAAC MIZRAHI

There’s something witty, effusive, brilliant and devastatingly charming about Isaac Mizrahi’s personality (we know, we’ve watched “Unzipped” 500 times) that always shines through in his designs. Season after season, on top of his day job (previously Target, presently Liz Claiborne), Mizrahi turns out fashion innovation, fashion moments — but not in that psycho techno way or that artsy avant-garde way that seems to happen to less optimistic creatives. It always feels new at Mizrahi — even if he’s made a simple floor-length gown. It’ll have the Mizrahi touch.

For autumn it’ll be all about pattern-on-pattern, color on color, fearlessness, and, oh, wearing your handbag on your head. I’m sure there was a metaphor there I’m not smart enough to get. Even the run of show was defiantly anti-gloom. Here are the names of the looks, read as many as you can stand: Blankie, Horse Blankie, Cozy, Fuzzy, Xanaxer, Un Hapi Happy Coat, Extra Happy Peacoat, Stressless Dress, Pet Coat, Plaid Therapy, Butterscotch Lozenge, Strapless Fan, Pea Suit, Cardi Suit, Mink Blankie, Patchy, Pea Soup Peacoat, Kente Kilt, Brownwatch Sarong, Nano Leather, Four Leave Duffle, Mascot Coat, Parkalette, Jackpot Strapless, Fantastic, Fantasia, Velvita, Lucky Charms, Heavy Metal, Nuts & Bolts, Wreynold’s Wrap, Molten Velvet, Gold Alligator.

Standout show-stopper: The swish-swish-swish of the floor-length beaded gowns. To die for.
