Concomitantly, support requirements for molecular biology researchers have grown in scope and complexity, incorporating specialized resources, technologies, and techniques. Case Presentation : To address this specific need among National Institutes of Health (NIH) intramural researchers, the NIH Library hired an expert bioinformatics trainer and consultant with a PhD in biochemistry to implement a bioinformatics support program. This study traces the program from its inception in 2009 to its present form. Discussion involves the particular skills of program staff, development of content, collection of resources, associated technology, assessment, and the impact of the program on the NIH community. Conclusion : Based on quantitative and qualitative data, the bioinformatics support program has been heavily used and appreciated by researchers. Continued success will depend on filling key staff positions, building on the existing program infrastructure, and keeping abreast of developments within the field to remain relevant and in touch with the medical research community utilizing bioinformatics services.

Discovery systems such as Summon, EBSCO Discovery Service, Primo, and WorldCat Discovery Services... more Discovery systems such as Summon, EBSCO Discovery Service, Primo, and WorldCat Discovery Services have become part of academic libraries’ standard toolbox. The Olin Library at Rollins College became an early adopter of Serials Solutions Summon Service in 2009, enhancing access to print and electronic material. Although this has led to general improvements over the fractured searching of the traditional online catalog, database list, A-Z journal list, and digital repository, we recognized that the disparate systems hampered our ability to deliver a superior discovery experience and effectively provide other library services for our patrons. Therefore, we did not begin by examining discovery tools, but new library systems. Our goal was to streamline data and resource management and enable further deconstruction of information silos that developed in the library. We previously used a SIRSI Integrated Library System for decades in addition to other systems that operated more or less in isolation from each other. Integration between them meant pushing and pulling data from one system to another, resulting in information lag and inconsistencies across systems. All of this impacted the discovery experience for end users. While we investigated new library systems, it became apparent that we needed a revolutionary change versus an evolutionary change. We required a holistic system, one in which backend processes seamlessly integrated into the frontend discovery layer. After the investigation process, we decided to replace our SIRSI integrated library system (ILS), Serials Solutions electronic resources management system (ERMS), and Summon discovery layer with Ex Libris Alma/Primo. This chapter will detail our motivations for change, investigation, selection process, preparation, and implementation of the Alma/Primo system as well as offer a framework for evaluating when a system architecture no longer meets current needs.

The authors aimed to explore the relationship between the physical and virtual library space and if this has an impact on student and faculty use of library resources. The study also sought to understand the extent to which libraries are already conducting marketing efforts, the success they have had in doing so, and how publishers can help to enhance the library/end user experience.

Challenges of using library systems can include information overload, links that do not work properly, incorrect metadata, and questionable relevance to search results. Nate Hosburgh, Electronic Resources Librarian at Montana State University, gave a presentation titled “A User-Centered Approach to Addressing Issues of Discoverability and Access” at the Mississippi State University Libraries’ eResource & Emerging Technologies Summit held in the Mitchell Memorial Library on August 2, 2013. Hosburgh spoke of lessons he and his team learned about troubleshooting eResources and his team’s approach to issues of discoverability and access.

In order to do this effectively, it is extremely helpful to have a detailed guide on hand. An e-resources acquisition checklist can assist the librarian in covering all aspects of evaluation, acquisition, renewal, and cancellation of e-resources such as databases, e-books, e-journals, and more. Such a tool can be indispensable, especially for new ERLs attempting to get a grasp on the logistics of electronic resources management. Using the newly created Techniques for Electronic Resource Management, the author details the process by which librarians navigate the e-resources lifecycle.

Interlibrary loan and document delivery staff from institutions across the United States were surveyed in order to ascertain what document delivery mechanisms are currently in place, how they are being used, and why. Findings from this study should lead to an increased awareness of electronic delivery options in libraries across the country and elucidate the dynamics involved at individual sites. This, in turn, will assist librarians in making decisions, based not only on their individual circumstances but on the experiences and trends found across a broad sampling of institutions.

Panelists discussed Open Access (OA) discovery and metadata workflows. This session was geared towards serialsts, catalogers, and electronic resources staff to help them understand the challenges facing them as librarians, relevant standards, and the publisher's view of OA discovery.
Nettie Lagace, Associate Director for Programs at the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) spoke about the Access and License Indicators (ALI) NISO Recommended Practice. ALI offers a way for publishers, repository managers, and other content providers to share article-level access and use information with discovery vendors.
Elise Sassone, Manager, Discovery & Discovery Services at Springer Nature provided a publisher's view of discovery of OA content. Readers may get to OA content through a number of different channels, and the library's tools are only one of those avenues.
Nate Hosburgh, Discovery and Systems Librarian at Rollins College will speak about the issues that discovery and electronic resource librarians face with fully OA and hybrid resources, including incomplete metadata, and the difficulty of integrating these into link resolvers and catalogs.
The meeting was presented by incoming chair Ana Noriega (Colby College) and current chair Chris Bulock (California State University Northridge).

The presenters delve into various facets of project management related to a migration from a traditional ILS and ERMS to a next generation library system or "library service platform" aka URM or Unified Resource Management System. Rollins College was unique as the first library in Florida to migrate to Ex Libris Alma as well as Primo for front end user discovery. The presenters discuss: layers of communication landscape, stakeholders, zero hour tasks, communication challenges, solutions, implementation of a ticketing system, looking ahead, and change management.

I presented a brief overview of these types of systems, what sets them apart from the traditional ILS, and where Rollins College is in our investigation. The results of a library systems survey were also shared with attendees. Following the presentation, there was interesting discussion amongst those in attendance representing the 31 ICUF libraries.

Yet, incorporating OA resources into existing discovery and tracking systems is often a complicated process. Open access material can be delivered through a variety of publishing or archival mechanisms, creating certain challenges, particularly for those managing e-resources. Although an increasing proportion of research output is becoming open access each year, organization and discovery of these resources remains imperfect.
In order to investigate this issue, we looked at the literature, efforts by certain organizations, looked at the resources directly, and designed a survey that was distributed to the library community through a variety of listservs.
