Sikhs were 'formed' as a clan of warriors in 16th century AD to stand up against the atrocities of the Mughal in- vaders. Today, India is a 67 year old democracy comprising 2% Sikhs in about a billion people (Singh, 1993). While there are no invaders or tyrants in contemporary times, a young Sikh boy is still brought up revering the Sikh philosophy and upholding high moral standards. In olden days, Sikh warriors kept long uncut beards and wore turbans, allowing masses to easily identify them and call for help; to induce fear amongst the invaders. This visual identity, even today is the key tenet of Sikhism. A modern day Sikh continues to retain the same sentiments and principles of Sikhism. Young turban clad Sikh boys with beards often are a center of ridicule amongst their peer group. Too young to ap- preciate the moral profoundness of their roots, growing Sikh adherents struggle to manage the social, peer pressure of being visually different and co-exist with the 'metr...

The textiles and apparel industry in India accounts for 14% of industrial production, which is 4% of GDP; employs 45 million people and accounts for nearly 11% share of the country’s total exports basket. During the year 2012-13, readymade garments accounted for almost 39% of the total exports. Apparel and cotton textiles products together contribute nearly 72% of the total textiles exports (Planning Commission, 2012-17). As one of the biggest employer of manpower in India, Indian Garment Manufacturing Firms (GMFs) cannot afford to neglect or ignore the area of Human Resources (HR) because machinery and men are vital aspects of this industry, but machinery without men is like a body without soul. This fact, all the more, makes Recruitment and Selection (R & S) as one of the most essential component which effects the Organisational Performance (OP). Human resource is considered as the nucleus of all development processes of the economy. HRM has been known from ages but deteriorating social conditions, increased competition and rapid technological advancement has now necessitated its rediscovery. This single endless re-source if utilized properly can do wonders in converting a start-up firm to a fully grown-up firm. By acquiring coherent human resource, enhancing their skills, stimulating them for high performance and assuring their continuous commitment and loyalty towards an organization, the organizational objectives can be best attained. The study reveals that by employing indigenous HR personnel or setting up HR department and practicing good HR activities from the very be-ginning stage of any start-up will lead to its survival and sustainability in long run.

The fashion industry has seen a major change in dynamics since 2010. There has been a decrease in mass production, an increase in the number of fashion seasons and a desire for low cost and high flexibility in quality, design and speedy delivery to the market [2]. As Amed et al. [1] mentions in his article, “more and more mainstream customers are moving into a decisive phase of digital adoption”. Consumers know exactly what they want to buy when they walk into a store and expect highest standards of customer experience and scrutinize convenience, price, quality, and newness. Without being aware of it, you have likely heard of Artificial Intelligence, be it Tesla driving for you or a chatbot, AI is becoming more and more integrated into our daily lives [11]. This paper proposes Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool for the online fashion retailers. It reviews the current state of Artificial Intelligence in the online fashion retail industry and presents a systematic review of using neural networks and big data in state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) applications in niches such as communication, prediction and visual recognition.

Business environment is perpetually undergoing
changes at such a pace that organizations are bound to be
affected by this plethora of rapid technological innovations,
fluctuations in consumer demands, latest state of the art
machinery, and evolving Human Resource (HR). The responses
that this dynamic competitive environment elicits are equally
dynamic. Dependence of apparel export organisations depend on the merchandisers is fairly large and the jobs undertaken by
merchandisers are too many. To ensure that tasks are performed
in accordance with expectations, list of activities to be undertaken must be specified to each merchandiser. Indian apparel export organizations need to exploit all available resources to survive and retain their share in the global market. The apparel export
occupies a prominent place in Indian Economy and is a labour
intensive industry. The human resource environment is very
complicated with lack of experienced and trained people, lack of sources of employment and little focus on human resource
planning, performance measurement and working conditions. In addition to this, absence of appropriate measures to assess the performance and link those to overall competitiveness.

According to NTPC Safety Rules building worker means “A person who is
employed by a contractor or his subcontractor to do any skilled, semi-skilled
or manual, supervisory, technical or clerical work for hire or reward, whether
the terms of employment be expressed or implied, in connection with any
building or other construction work.” (Rules, 2012). Construction industry is
the backbone of the economy as they provide job opportunity to the creators
of modern India. The labour strength comprises of both skilled and unskilled
workforce. In the current scenario of everyday development of Indian
economy, these construction workers play an indispensable role. Female
workers abroad are provided with proper protective clothing depending on
the kind of work being assigned to them, but unfortunately none was found
in Delhi during the study. The focus of the study is to understand the nature
of work on site and identify the key factors related to the problems faced by
female workers while on site in terms of clothing. The interaction with the
female labours and the field study has revealed the problems that women are
currently facing. The study further leads to systematically design and
development of protective clothing for female workers which caters to the
functional aspect designed by keeping in mind the cultural essence also. The
knowledge gained via survey and the interview conducted on 46 female
workers on construction site, helped understanding their requirement and
offering them a functional solution in their clothing to ease their problems

Most of the conflict and tension that the Sikh youth face today is based around the difficulty of trying to ‘fit in’. This concept of feeling wanted

The E-commerce market in India reached a value of INR 81,525 crores (US $13.5 billion) in 2014; according to the latest report by IAMAI and IMRB International. . The online retail spending in India grew by 67% in 2013, and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of more than 50% between 2013 and 2017.  The adoption of devices such as smart phones and tablets, easy availability of internet, advancement in technology has earned India a place among top 20 countries on the global forum & led to the rapid growth of E-commerce and online shopping . India has developed a huge online consumer base as depicted by the major players like Flipkart and Snapdeal. With this growth, it is expected that tons of jobs will be booming in the market in the years to come. New job opportunities are evolving every year. According to Technopak, KPMG, IAMAI study, this rapid growth in E-commerce will create employment opportunities for about 1.4 million job-seekers. The critical requirements of the e-commerce industry today are category managers, digital marketers, web designers, and people with expertise in web analytics, copywriting and content creation.  The Apparel E-tailing sector lacks personnel with technical knowledge about Apparel Products since most of the personnel hired in E-commerce companies today are from IT sectors. There is a need for the new upcoming Job titles to have Apparel knowledge besides their basic knowledge.

Profitability of any industry depends on money (Financial inputs), material
(Raw material & other store spares inputs), machinery (Technology used and its level of upkeep),
man (Employees - Human Resources), systems / procedures and market (Demand and price
position).[1] Among all these factors, manpower assumes greater significance. Manpower is the life
blood of any industry. Therefore, every effort should be taken on a priority basis to keep this factor
for achieving the main objectives of the industry. The textile industry occupies a unique place in our
country. It is the second largest employment generator after agriculture. The textile industry being
labor-intensive, is a major contribution to the country‟s economy with its vast potential for creation
of employment opportunities in the agricultural and industrial sectors. Business organizations are
made up of people and function through people. Textile industries are no exception to this.(Kumar,
MarimuthuSelva, Subbiah, A. and Krishnaveni, B.)[2]It is thus essential to apply human resource
management in the export sector to retain employees.

Abstract - The present study explores the non-monetary
motivational drivers in the garment workers and examining its
effect on performance of the workers. A survey was conducted on
60 garment workers from one of well known garment industry
based in Delhi NCR to collect the data. The finding of the study
indicated that there is a gap between the manager’s and worker’s
perspective regarding motivation and that non-monetary rewards
helps to increase the motivation of worker so that they can
perform better in their work place. Also if there are strong
policies for motivation, the attrition rate of good workers are
reduced.
