People are greatly impaired in their daily lives when suffering from driving phobia disorders. The anxieties can be triggered under various conditions, such as driving over bridges, driving at high speeds, or driving in close proximity to large trucks. Traditional cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure therapy are the most common approaches used in the treatment of psychological disorders, such as anxiety disorder (AD) and panic disorder (PD). This research focuses on virtual reality (VR)-based exposure therapy, called VRET, and describes the design and development of a system which uses alternating levels of fear-based driving scenarios that can be recorded and automatically adjusted to maximize exposure effectiveness without causing the subjects to panic. The proposed VRET integrates an advanced feedback database module for tracing and analyzing the system, along with the user’s bio-data to show the valid data collection of the syste...

Compact discs (CD) and Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) sales reached record highs in 2004 and 2006 respectively, and the markets continue to shrink as CDs, DVDs, and related consumer electronic products have entered the mature stage of development following the entry of Blu-ray DiscTM (BD) products. This research explores the history, evolution, and systematic innovation driven by consumer demands for these products. The research provides a life cycle analysis of technology and market trends for the optical disc industry. Logistic curves are used to model the patent statistics and market values of DVD and BD technologies to document data trends from the mid-1990s till now. The results show that BD technology patent filings rapidly reached the decline point two years after DVD technology matured. The results also show that systematic innovation of optical disc technology is consumer demand driven with BD technology forecasted to replace DVDs in a very short period of time. Technology and market growth curves are used to model the entry times of DVDs and BDs into the mature stage of the product life cycle. The patent based forecasts indicate that new DVD entrants should be cautious since there will be decreasing economic benefits as the new BD technologies gain popularity and market share. The most valuable contribution of this research is the use of the quantitative logistic analytic techniques for technology forecasting incorporating both patent and marketing data. The methodology enables the integrated analysis of technology and marketing intelligence and can be applied to other industry domains and assist the allocation of research funding in their systematic innovation development.

Patents are critical intangible assets for enabling an enterprise's creation and technology.... more Patents are critical intangible assets for enabling an enterprise's creation and technology. Patent knowledge management is a time consuming task that often dominates the valuable time of R&D staff. This research develops an intelligent recommendation methodology and system for efficient and effective patent search. The system provides an algorithm which is an automatic search engine with management modules. The system clusters users' patent search behavior and infers new patent recommendations. The proposed methodology evaluates the filtered information of the searched patents. Afterward, the system clusters the users and finds each user's neighbors based on the collaborative filtering mechanism. By clustering neighbors' behaviors, the proposed system recommends new users to more appropriate patents to study. When enterprises are planning R&D policies or searching patents for possible prior arts, the intelligent recommendation system helps identify and recommend comprehensive and related patents while saving time and costs.

Many enterprises regard logistics as the core competency of their corporate strategy. Global logistic service companies often report limitations and challenges to supply chain integration including decreased transportation efficiency, diminished information transparency, and reduced material, information and cash flows. In this research, the concept of one-stop logistic services is defined and developed to provide enterprises with improved, integrated, and comprehensive services. A multi-view process modeling approach is applied to construct the model and identify potential bottlenecks with existing logistics processes. The one-stop logistic management model is defined as a to-be improved logistic service framework with functions to enhance the flow of materials, products, information, and cash transactions for integrated supply chains.

The effects of information overload run counter to prevailing direct marketing thought; the more catalogs you give consumers, the more likely they will purchase. A national representative sample of catalog consumers was studied. It was found that, as predicted from an information overload perspective, increasing the number of catalogs increases purchase up to a point (the point of overload), at which any increase in catalogs reduces purchase. Different types of catalogs were found to have differing overload points; for instance, sporting goods catalogs lead to overload sooner than clothing catalogs.
