Combined Extrusion-Forging process is a renowned metal forming method which serves as a pathway f... more Combined Extrusion-Forging process is a renowned metal forming method which serves as a pathway for manufacturing components of complex design. In that context processing a component with better mechanical and metallurgical properties can be enhanced by severe plastic deformation which processes the fine-grained materials formation in the product. These fine-grained materials achieved by SPD makes the component with superior quality. The novelty of the concept is to validate the presence of fine-grained materials at lower ram displacement. This paper presents the estimated forming load, metal flow pattern and alike, using aluminum 1072 as billet material for manufacturing SCCCH, along with micro-structural validation by experimental die-punch setup and simulation using modelling software DEFORM3D. The current paper determines the third order elastic constants of the Ni-Ti based shape memory al... more The current paper determines the third order elastic constants of the Ni-Ti based shape memory alloy from Morse potential using second nearest neighbour embedded atomic model (2NNEAM) in LAMMPS Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulation package. The complexities involved in the current work are lack of experimental data, such as amount of stress induced for the first order martensitic phase transition and plane about which the phase transformation takes place, which in our current work is considered as the amount of vibrations that the inherent anharmonicity possessed by the Shape memory alloy (SMA) for the first order phase transition. It is further attempted to justify the third elastic constants that are evaluated using VRH approximation, but however VRH approximation lacked stability and hence it is concluded that Morse potential is suitable.

Collet chuck holder is a tool holding device used in different types of CNC milling machines. The chuck holder is described by a flange at the middle to fit into the machine, taper portion which is conical shaped area present at the bottom which enters the spindle for changing holder and collet pocket which fits the collet for holding the cutting tool. For manufacturing the tool holder an enormous amount of material is being wasted by the machining process which is almost equal to the volume of the product. Some manufacturer use casting, subsequently by machining to get the final shape. Both the used processes have their limitations as discussed earlier. Due to the complexity of the forming process and because of so many process variables, it is difficult to predict the forming load required to manufacture a given component. It is very costly to conduct different trail runs to know the metal flow patterns, and for redesigning of tool and die setup, etc. The present paper deals with the Finite element analysis of combined forward and backward extrusion-forging process for the product shape socket wrench. Two types of socket wrenches, Square-square type and hexagon-square type have been taken for the present analysis. The modelling has been done by using 3D modelling software CATIA and simulation through the Finite element based package DEFORM 3D software. The forming load can be estimated by the results obtained from the Finite element analysis through DEFORM 3D software.
