From a young age, I was enchanted by fairy tales and Hollywood romances, each one whispering the promise of a perfect man.

But what happens when the fairy tale falls apart and reality sets in?

I found out the hard way, and it changed my perspective on love forever.

The Illusion of Perfection

Have you ever met someone and felt an instant connection, believing they were perfect?

I met my perfect guy at a friend’s party. He was charming, witty, and everything seemed perfect. I was blind to any flaws in him. I believed he was “the one.”

Psychologists call this the “positive illusions” phenomenon, where you see nothing wrong with your partner in the early stages of a relationship.

Research shows that idealization is necessary because it helps us form an initial bond with our partner. However, if reality doesn’t set in, the illusion of perfection only leads to disappointment.

Standards vs Idealization

You can’t have a good relationship if you don’t have standards.
