The Importance of Setting Standards in Your Dating Life
I never liked recreational dating or the “friends with benefits” setup. I have certain standards for my dating life, and I lay them out in a post I wrote last year:
I don’t really care if men think my standards are too high. In the past, I accommodated my partners and my standards were not the best. In recent years, I learned to be more assertive and to respect myself more. I refuse to settle for a “good enough for now” relationship. I have an end goal in mind when I date someone, and that goal is to determine whether someone qualifies to be my future spouse or not. I like fun dates, but they can’t distract me from the real purpose of dating. Here is why standards are important in dating.
You Should Require Respect From Your Partner
One important reason why you should set standards in dating is that you must require the same respect from your partner that you give him. Relationships shouldn’t be one-sided, and you want to establish the requirement for respect early in the relationship.
