The reason for the involvement of the kalām scholars (mutakallimūn) in these kinds of issues is commonly regarded as an effort to defend Islamic beliefs against other religions and thought systems. However, when their studies are examined closely, the complexity of their concepts and theories, as well as the fact that they discussed these matters not only with opposing groups but also among themselves, show that kalām had a much deeper and integrated relationship with science and philosophy in the classical period. Their engagement with philosophical and scientific matters, such body (jism), substance/atom (jawhar), accident (ʿaraḍ), motion, space, time, and causality dates back to the mid-8th century and displays great diversity. Although the mutakallimūn probably were the first ones to deal with physics-related issues in Islamic thought, it cannot be said that they are given the importance they deserve in modern studies pertaining to the history of science and philosophy in Islamic thought. The fact that, in kalām works, physics-related questions were generally discussed along with theological matters has caused the scholarship of mutakallimūn to be regarded as an adjunct of apologetic discipline and has thereby led to a limited description of kalām’s relationship with science and philosophy in the classical period. This set of circumstances hinders a proper understanding of how science and philosophy emerged and evolved in Islamic thought. In the present article, I will attempt to present the place and role of physical topics, namely daqīq or laṭīf al-kalām, in classical kalām, between the 9th and 11th centuries. Firstly, I will show how the classical mutakallimūn divided kalām into two parts, namely ‘major’ (jalīl) matters, which are based on revelation, and ‘subtle’ (daqīq) or ‘obscure’ (laṭīf) matters, which mainly depend on reason. Matters surrounding jalīl al-kalām indicate the theological problems on which the mutakallimūn had a general agreement, such as God’s oneness, revelation, prophethood, and eschatology. Questions discussed under the category of daqīq or laṭīf al-kalām mostly correspond to philosophical and scientific issues concerning epistemology, physics, and cosmology. Secondly, I will examine to what extent the mutakallimūn dealt with physical sciences and what kind of topics were primarily discussed in the field of daqīq or laṭīf al-kalām. The upshot of this will be that the claim that the mutakallimūn were interested in physics and cosmology merely for apologetic purposes is unsound; rather, in the 9th and 10th centuries, many Muslim theologians also concerned themselves with issues such as motion, void, body, atom, and causality as truth seekers. That being the case, the mutakallimūn should be taken into consideration in studies related to the emergence and rise of science and philosophy in Islamic thought.

Whenever Muslim theologians (mutakallimūn) deal with any issue, they first determine how the linguists would have made sense of the relevant terms and then explain it in a way that is appropriate for use in Arabic. This sensitivity to language is not only limited to defining the Islamic terms such as "belief" (īmān), "unbelief" (kufr), "disobedience" (ma'ṣiya), and "justice" ('adl), but also includes defining the terms of physics and cosmology. In other words, when conceptualizing terms such as "universe" (al-'ālam), "body" (jism), "substance (jawhar), "accident" ('araḍ), "motion" (ḥaraka), and "rest" (sukūn), these theologians mostly take into account how the speakers of language commonly use them. This article seeks to answer the question of why they regard language as an important discipline, alongside cosmological issues, in the context of the language-thought-existence relationship. Perhaps by making a thought system based on Arabic, which happened to emerge in their regions as a result of long-time interactions with the natural environment and consequently became conveyers of a particular worldview and way of thinking, they sought to resist the impact of the Greek worldview and logic that poured into the Islamic world from all lands via translations. In other words, the primary reason why the theologians considered language as the authority in theological and cosmological discussions was because they saw it, along with its structure and concepts, as a carrier of their traditional worldviews and way of thinking.

Abstract: When examining the kalām books within the classical period, what may be surprising to us at first glance is the great importance that has been given to language in their theological discussions and the recognition of linguists (ahl al-lugha) as an authority. Whenever Muslim Theologians (mutakallimūn) deal with any issue, they first determine how linguists would make sense of those relevant terms, and then explain it in a way that is appropriate for use in the Arabic language. This sensitivity of theologians in the language is not only limited to defining the terms of Islamic creeds, such as 'faith', 'infidelity', 'revolt' and 'justice', but also includes the definition of terms of physics and cosmology. In other words, while the mutakallimūn of the classical period conceptualize terms such as 'universe', 'bodies', 'substance', 'accidents', 'motion', and 'rest', they mostly take into account how the speakers of language use them. This article seeks to answer the question of why mutakallimūn regard the language as an important discipline, alongside cosmological issues, in the context of the relation between language, thought, and being. Perhaps by making a thought system based on Arabic language that happened to emerge in their regions as a result of long-time interactions with the natural environment and consequently became conveyers of particular worldview and way of thinking, they aimed to resist the impact of Greek worldview and logic that poured into the Islamic world from all ends via translations. In other words, the primary reason as to why the mutakallimūn considered language as an authority in theological and cosmological discussions was because they saw language, with its structure and concepts, as a carrier of their traditional worldviews and their way of thinking.

In this regard, we will first analyze the extent to which M-theory is scientific. For M-theory is mainly mentioned by Hawking and Mlod-inow as the theory that explains scientifically the generation of the universe out of nothing and why the universe is the way it is. In the second part, the conception of science that Hawking and Mlodinow adopt on the basis of the model dependent realism will be analyzed. Moreover, we will call attention to some problems that are rooted in the increased gap between theory and experiment in contemporary physics. In the last *

In the first part I am going to make a comparison between belief in the Hereafter in Islam and belief in reincarnation in Indian religions in terms of their respective views of about God and the universe. In the second part, I am going to discuss the group associated with belief in the migration of the soul (tanāsukh) and the reaction they received from Muslim thinkers through Islamic history. In the third part, I am going to deal with the idea of reincarnation as the modern version of the idea of the migration of the soul. In this context, I am going to discuss various claims of groups or organizations defending the idea of reincarnation. Among these claims, one may include the following: reincarnation is scientifically verified, belief in reincarnation solves the problem of evil, and reincarnation is supported by sacred books including the Qurʾān. My overall purpose is to show that the religion and thought systems reveal their doctrines of immortality within the integral framework of their ontology, epistemology and universe models. In this regard, I will conclude by noting that the belief in reincarnation is not only incompatible with the Islam's belief in hereafter but also Islamic teachings concerning God, the universe, and man.
