Traditional performance art is one form of art and culture, and it identifies the character and life philosophy of the community. Unfortunately, in this globalization era there are many traditional performance arts that do not keep the original characteristic and life philosophy of its community anymore or fading away after getting influences from external cultures. Sundanese are the largest indigenous ethnic group in the western part of Java Island. Sundanese culture closely relates to Animist, Hindu-Buddhist, and Islam philosophies. It led to the unique creation of the Sundanese traditional houses called Rumah Adat in Kampung Naga where the ancient tradition from their ancestor were upheld until today. Kampung Naga was listed as one of the Sundanese traditional villages known as Kampung Adat in West Java. This village has its own characteristics which enable the conveyance of tremendous tradition from the past, since the reign of Padjajaran Kingdom to the present. Additionally, it has the ability to accelerate globalization of culture these days. The objectives of this paper are to reintroduce and observe the in-depth meaning of Sundanese traditional houses within Kampung Naga. This paper employed qualitative investigation with the support of exploratory literature review. The result of this study portrayed that Sundanese traditional village are depicted as sacred spaces when the founder, the belief, and the nature spirit are interrelated. Thus, the creation of traditional houses in Kampung Naga does not only serve as shelters, but it also has " breath " , " soul " and may embody cosmological value. This paper is prominent in the documentation of Sundanese traditional buildings as one of cultural identity of Indonesia, which will deliver the cultural knowledge to the world wide.

Abstrak Kehidupan dalam alam semesta senantiasa dikelilingi oleh energi yang memiliki pengaruh baik dan buruk. Manusia yang merupakan bagian dari alam semesta ini, sejak ribuan tahun berusaha untuk mendeteksi energi yang ada di alam dengan menggunakan berbagai cara salah satunya melalui Feng Shui. Feng Shui merupakan ilmu dan seni yang berasal dari kebudayaan Cina tradisional yang bertujuan menciptakan dan membangun lingkungan yang harmonis untuk orang-orang hidup dalamnya dengan pendekatan metafisik dalam memperhitungkan energi (Chi/ Qi) yang dalam kurun waktu 2 dasawarsa telah banyak mempengaruhi berbagai aspek khususnya desain interior melalui berbagai metode, salah satunya metode Ba Zi. Studi ini mengenai Feng Shui dengan pendekatan metode Ba Zi yang berkaitan dengan penentuan lokasi, orientasi bukaan, material serta warna. Hal ini tidak menutup kemungkinan menjadi salah satu faktor yang berpengaruh dalam perancangan interior. Bandung is famous in many tourism sectors, such as nature, fashion and culinary. Bandung well known by having the variousity of culinary. Based on current observations, many culinary tourism facilities – restaurant in Bandung has a typical interior layout that related to local culture. The characteristic arrangement of interior elements in the restaurant are using various design vernacular and vintage products in the same time, which give a unique phenomenon and reflecting local ethnicity. There is a perspective differences between the traditional society as the creator and user of the vernacular products, with the modern society. The differences is due to cultural factors, that traditional society has mythic culture background, while modern society has ontology culture background. This paper has descriptive interpretative approach, will be focusing on how modern society treats the vernacular design and vintage products in the present time and the arrangement of products in interior of modern-ethnic restaurant – Warung Lela. The summary of applying vernacular design and using vintage products as interior element to attract in tourism purposes is possible to change the meaning of the vernacular design as the supporting elements.

A STUDY ON THE CULTURAL ASPECT IN THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE BANTEN GREAT MOSQUE, BANTEN, INDONESIA
Banten Great Mosque Complex is known as a remnant from the Banten Sultanate. It is situated in Banten Lama, an area in Banten, at the west end of Java. The Banten Great Mosque Complex exists from the unity of both local and foreign cultures. This research is done to investigate the cultural unity that exist in the architecture and interior design in three important zones in the Banten Great Mosque Complex. It is an assembly of buildings called the tiyamah, the great mosques and the cemetery. The local community relationship with the visitors around the complex are known to be closed knit with the existence of these three important zones and the architectural elements on the building had also influenced the culture that surrounds it. This research has used the qualitative method with a multi level research. It starts with the pilot study, observation, collecting of oral and written data complete with in-depth interview. This research also uses cultural research approach as a support in revealing the Java, Chinese and Dutch cultures that bring influence in the existence of religions like Islam, Hinduism dan Buddhism. The research findings had shown that there are changes in the religious activity in the traditional activity that should have been done in the mosque, but were done at the cemetery. The old religious philosophy before Islam, like from Hinduism and Buddhism that had influence the Banten Great Mosque Complex has changed into the Islamic philosophy. The findings is the orientation of the Banten Great Mosque Complex and the great mosques building that is suitable with the philosophy of the four direction of the wind, that is close the Java’s cultural philosophy, Hinduism and Islam. Another significant findings is discover the meaning of the curves number on the foot of the pillar which is also known as umpak that is close to Buddhism and Islam philosophies. ____________________________________________________________________________
Kompleks Masjid Agung Banten dikenali sebagai peninggalan daripada Kesultanan Banten. Ia terletak di Banten Lama, kawasan Banten, hujung barat Pulau Jawa. Kompleks Masjid Agung Banten wujud daripada perpaduan budaya tempatan dan asing. Penyelidikan ini bertujuan meneroka perpaduan budaya terhadap kewujudan seni bina sehingga reka bentuk dalaman di tiga zon penting di kompleks Masjid Agung Banten. Ia adalah bangunan perhimpunan yang dikenali sebagai tiyamah, masjid agung dan kawasan perkuburan. Hubungan aktiviti masyarakat tempatan dan pelawat di persekitaran kompleks diketahui saling berkait rapat dengan kewujudan tiga zon penting tersebut dan elemen-elemen seni bina pada bangunan tersebut juga mempengaruhi budaya persekitaran. Penyelidikan ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif dengan tahap penyelidikan berperingkat. Ia bermula dengan penyelidikan rintis, pemerhatian, pengumpulan maklumat lisan dan tulisan serta temuramah mendalam. Penyelidikan ini juga menggunakan pendekatan penyelidikan budaya sebagai sokongan dalam mendedahkan budaya Jawa, Cina dan Belanda yang membawa pengaruh kepada kewujudan agama Islam, Hindu dan Buddha. Hasil dapatan penyelidikan ini mendapati bahawa telah terjadi pertukaran aktiviti agama dalam aktiviti tradisi yang sepatutnya berlaku di bangunan masjid, namun ia berlaku di kawasan perkuburan. Falsafah agama-agama terdahulu sebelum Islam, seperti Hindu dan Buddha yang mempengaruhi kompleks Masjid Agung Banten telah berganti dengan falsafah Islam. Dapatan tersebut adalah orientasi kompleks Masjid Agung Banten dan bangunan masjid agung mempunyai kesesuaian dengan falsafah empat arah mata angin yang hampir dengan falsafah budaya Jawa, agama Hindu dan Islam. Dapatan penting lain adalah menemukan makna daripada perincian jumlah keluk kaki tiang atau dikenali sebagai umpak yang mempunyai pendekatan falsafah agama Buddha dan Islam.

Sejak dibangun pertama kali tahun 1828, bangunan pendopo gubernur Banten telah mengalami belasan kali renovasi dan rehabilitasi. Dahulu, bangunan ini sebagai simbol kemegahan dan kekuasaan Pemerintahan Kolonial Belanda. Kemegahannya kemudian mendorong munculnya gedung dan bangunan-bangunan kolonial lainnya di kota Serang, Banten. Buku yang ditulis oleh Mufti Ali, PhD dan Tessa Eka Darmayanti, M.Sc ini memberikan pengetahuan bangunan heritage melalui pendekatan sejarah dan survey yang telah dilakukan.

The interior design of a building has an influence on the creation of communal activities conducted in the building. These communal activities will give 'spatial experience' to anyone who is in the interior of the building. A different individual may have a different interior spatial experience of the building. On the other hand, the cultural values and the condition of the environment surrounding the Masjid Agung Banten complex may also have influenced the interior design. The spaces in the buildings within the complex of the historic Masjid Agung Banten are the major important elements because they and the people in them give impressions, messages and sacred atmosphere when either religious activities or traditions are conducted there. The complex of Masjid Agung Banten contains historical values. Being in spaces of historical significance always brings back a glimpse of history, recalls the history and the history was through imagination, hence the strength of the past will be able to be experienced in the present. Various activities that occur in the spaces have purposes as a tribute and interpret the history. Although many studies on the historic buildings within the complex of Masjid Agung Banten have been done, they only provide general knowledge. This qualitative research has the objectives of giving an overview of spatial quality through someone’s ‘spatial experience’, understanding, assessment and interpretation, to share the meaning and sensation of feelings as a result of interaction from activities that happen in the Masjid Agung Banten complex.

Lasem or Lao Sam is known as the place of the biggest Chinese immigrants in Java which occurred in the 14th - the 15th century and which caused the strong influence of Chinese culture into local culture (Javanese). The artifacts of the acculturation can still be seen in Peranakan House or Rumah Peranakan. The existence of the house is very important to Chinese community, especially in the embodiment of the gate. The gate is not only seen from its physical entity, but can also be seen as the concept of infinite space. Its meaning goes beyond the dualism that generates new significance of the “spatial”. The concept of third space can serve as a medium that provides harmony between conflicts that often occur between the first space and second space. This is a qualitative research with the third space as the theoretical approach and is equipped with data collection strategy through the study of literature. This article became one of the important documents in the history and culture of Lasem, as well as a part of Indonesian identity with multi-cultural backgrounds. In addition, it serves as a medium for disseminating knowledge about the Indonesian culture to the international audience.

Cultural tourism become a promising sector and one of it comes from West Java, Indonesia known as Kampung Naga. Kampung Naga is one of Sundanese traditional villages known as Kampung Adat. The village has its own characteristics which enable to conveyance of tremendous ancient tradition be upheld until today. Traditional houses in Kampung Naga as the belief in the existence of " soul " and " breath " that may embody the cosmological values. Tritangtu known as Sundanese cosmology is possible to bring another perspective to look in-depth into Indonesian cultural tourism, especially through traditional houses embodiment. This qualitative article use Sundanese cosmology approach which will give a positive contribution in documenting Sundanese traditional buildings as sacred spaces when the founder, the belief, and the nature spirit are interrelated. Therefore, it may deliver Indonesian cultural knowledge to the worldwide.

Batik is one of Indonesia's masterpieces, and the whole world has recognized the existence of batik. UNESCO has been set batik as an Indonesian cultural heritage, namely as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on October 2, 2009. Batik has many types of features and meanings, and the Parang motif will be the focus of this article. The definition contained in the motif can be an inspiration and applied in interior design. This qualitative article uses a cultural study approach that is supported by the exploration of literature. This research has a contribution in giving ideas in the application of various meanings of Parang motifs into spatial elements, besides that it provides the view that batik is not only a piece of decorative cloth but also has many profound implications that can become the identity of the Indonesian nation.
