Introduction The new cadre of business operations focuses on cost reduction and improved efficiency without hindering the globalisation of business engagement. The globalisation of entities has meant that innovative ideas need to be implemented in order for businesses to grow but also to reduce costs thereby affecting the profit margins positively. Although most companies use technological innovation to enhance profit (for example, parastatals and companies registered in terms of Section 21 of the Company's Act), some organisations use these technologies to reduce costs in line with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) Act No 1 of 1999 to get best value for public funds. Background of the Study Company X is a South African development agency that offers programme management to government departments and other development partners and development advisory services aimed at the eradication of poverty in South Africa. Their emphasis is on the eradication of chronic intergenerat...

Introduction Household decision-making has traditionally been made by the parents however, with the advancement of technology, globalisation, changing of cultures and parental guilt of immense work pressures, decision-making is changing. Today, children play a major role in influencing purchase decisions. Schor (2005:19) points out that a child is now immersed in the consumer marketplace to an extent never seen before. She gives the example of a one year old who watches " Teletubbies " while eating the food of their promotional partners, Burger King and McDonalds. It is therefore no surprise, Schor (2005: 19) argues, that by the time a child reaches 18 months, they are able to recognise logos and are even asking for products by brand names, before they turn two. It is also little wonder that corporates are eager to target the child market. Linn (2005:1) describes children as the " darlings of corporate America ". She states that the competitiveness of corporates ...

Introduction The goal of every business is to make profit. This goal can be achieved by attracting and retaining customers through marketing. Marketing is therefore a means to determining what the customer's want, which will lead to customer satisfaction, loyalty and profitability. Business owners should carefully plan their marketing strategies and performance to keep their market presence strong. Home-based business alternatives have become an attractive proposition for the unemployed who are finding it extremely difficult to find work thus, deciding to be self-employed thereby setting up small and micro enterprises. Baron and Shane (2008:5) regard these people as entrepreneurs because they have recognised opportunities and created something new. One of the main reasons for justifying the existence of home-based businesses as cited by Walker and Brown (2004:581) is that, many of them are service orientated and with the continuing advancement in technology and communication, th...

Introduction The South African (SA) media landscape has become a lot more competitive in recent years. This has been driven by a growth in the number of consumer products and services coupled with the growth in media platforms. According to Ces and Treglia (2009:153), " saturation, digital media, convergence and audience fragmentation are making it increasingly difficult to reach the consumer. " The implication for advertising practitioners is that they have to work harder at developing effective advertising. In the past advertisers had very few media platforms to choose from. These included television, radio, print and outdoor. Today the options have increased in number. Consumers and advertisers alike have more media platforms to choose from. According to Sousa (2013) the introduction of digital media platforms and the explosive growth of mobile channels are some of the factors driving media fragmentation. It is not uncommon to see a consumer browsing the internet on the...
