Third, it presents some examples of judicial decisions on ESC rights in South Asia and discusses the contribution of such decisions in strengthening the enforcement of ESC rights. Thus the State has an obligation to review its existing legislations and make suitable amendments where needed or adopt new laws in order to ensure that the domestic law is in conformity with the international human rights standards accepted by it. The present Handbook contains checklists for the core International Human Rights Treaties that can be used to assess/review the domestic law in a country against the international human rights standards. The checklists are based on the general comments made by the treaty bodies, reports of special rapporteurs and standards and principles developed by the United Nations.
